No its not like a Cosworth.

This was Ford's idea to have a European Ford division in the 80's.

Similar to what GM did with Saturn before they ended the brand.

The X4RTi was a Ford Sierra everywhere else in the world. Like an Escort, the Sierra could be a basic car or a fire breather.

It was used it rallying and touring car racing and was incredible successful in touring cars in the British, European, and Australian championships.

The Mac Tools one you posted was run in the IMSA GTO/Trans AM by Roush racing to good success alongside the Mercury Capri and Mustangs but it must be noted that these were tube chassis cars.

A Cosworth on the other hand came in many versions the greatest was the RS500 which is incredibly rare and expensive now.

Fifth Gear had one on a recent show.

Similar...basically it's the U.S. version of the Ford Sierra XR4i.

Pretty nice car with a turbocharged 2.3 liter inline four with 175 bhp. I think the Mustang SVO had the same engine.

The Sierra RS Cosworth was a completely different animal with 220 bhp and revised bodywork for better aerodynamics/handling. Excellent car that took many touring car victories in its day.

EDIT: And of course, I can count on EJ to beat me to it...hahaha. :goodjob:

I beat you guys to it. :taun:

No one posted the 4 door (which looks better) that was branded as a Merkur Scorpio in America and came with an incredible ugly front compared with the Sierra Sapphire.

It should also be mentioned a Cosworth could be had in either 2 wheel or 4 wheel drive.

Dick Johnson would win Bathurst in his RS500

He said it made 90 hp without the turbo and 590hp with it. :lmao:

xr4ti had the same engine as the svo but detuned.

Different mapping.

I've got the svo sitting in the driveway and the ecu mapping is totally different for the xr4ti.

2.3L turbo on both.

I grew up in London, they made the rs500 at the local plant near me. My cousin worked there and every new cossy that came out he traded his old one in for a new one.

The rs500 was truely a wolf in sheeps clothing.

The xr4ti over here was a bag of poo.

The escort was the same thing as well. In europe fun cars over here detuned poo bags.

The xr4ti was an ok car but needed a lot of help. You can find them still running around. The right person can make them fly.

They had a totally different tranny than the mustangs. I think it was a t9 versus the t5. Weaker tranny if I can remember rightly.

I'd trade my svo for a rs500 any day.

I've got a friend who has one, makes around 300hp. His downpipe glows though...

300hp is very easy in them.

factory was 175hp.

There has been a few that are pushing the 600 mark.

One of the sites I'm on gives directions for specific hp.

If you want this hp, then do this. Very by the book.

Drummerboy..........Where were you when you saw the XR? and what color was it? There are 10+ drivers in the local area, and I know most of them. If you're interested in meeting some of them to discuss the potential of the vehicle, we'd be more than happy to get together with you. LMK

I have both the Scorpio and the XR4Ti. I love them both! The Scorpio was my first car and have had tons of fun with it. The XR is currently my DD and its a fun little car to drive. Trying to find parts for them though is a PAIN IN THE ASS!! So if you have one and come across a part you better buy it even if you don't need it. All maintence stuff will be under the mustang SVO or the Thunderbird. If you own one you better know what parts off of other ford vehicles will match up. Still have to say Merkurs are my favorite cars. Any other peeps out there with these cars??? I'd love to meet more of you guys!

Fun cars, but maintenance nightmares. Rayna's XR will be an RS500 in time. :ninja::ninja:

I remember back in 88 when my pops went to buy his Sterling, the dealer also sold the Merkurs. I loved the seats in those things.

I 100% am there on parts with ya.

Find front lower control arms for a svo, can not rebuild them.

They came off of a 82 lincoln. If you can find them they are running around $1000.

I have a spare set.

I got told when I bought my svo, it is a cool car but make sure you get a parts car.

Well there is one site that forbids that and that kind of behaviour. But if I see somebody parting one out, I'm like dude I need this, this and this.

I'm trying to find a complete front end for my svo and is a reasonable price. I think svo and reasonable do not go hand in hand.

My next project is my engine and tranny rebuild.

If you know of any shops for 2.3 turbo's let me know. I know a Land Rover engine rebuilder that told me he would gladly do it for me.
