Some of you may know I picked up a 1969 Datsun 2000 Roadster from CatNip on here.
The car needs a bit of work, and after having it sit in my garage for several weeks, I finally got to work on it.
I cleaned it out on the inside, there were some bugs from it sitting outside so long. I actually had to bug bomb the car to kill everything. Then vacuumed up the remains.
Now I am off the the exterior. I am have only taken one pic since I started sanding on it, I will post that below, and I will post more as I make more progress.
I also am in the process of removing the front fenders, there is a lot of rust in the dog legs, and I'm taking them to a friends to cut and weld new metal into it.
The pics of it put together are ones that CatNip took. The last one is my progress on sanding it.

It has the original engine with 40-something thousand original miles, so I'm going to do a modified stock restore on it.

Sweet man, are you going with the original red, or a different color? i love this car, did it come with any tops?

I think the red was a primer under all that, the original color was that pale yellow, which I am not going back with.
I am torn on colors. I am thinking about maybe a hyperwhile with a light pearl on it, or possibly red. There is also an awesome green I like, but I think I have decided agasint that.
I have the factory hard top and the convertible top frame, but it needs a new canvas top. You can actually see the hard top leaned up agasint the wall in the bottom pic.

Got more pics of the progress. Just remember I'm working on it between work and school and g/f, so it might be a little slow.

That hood was a bitch and a half to get that far!
I got the linkage out and ready, but it was too stormy today to take the Camaro out. I'll get it out tomorrow if it's better weather :goodjob:

I had a 2000. Loved that car. Mine was white too, great color choice. Once you get that thing finished, you will enjoy the hell out of it.

You aren't kidding, it was major, now I'm going to start working on the rear fender and see if I can get all that sanded and filled, with the fenders off, I'm going to clean the frame and give it a fresh "undercoat" type protection.

Started on the trunk. I counted 8 layers of paint I had to sand through to get to the metal

If it has 8 layers of paint and you are going to metal, I would use a chemical paint striper and the clean and sand!:goodjob:

Funny you should say that. The trunk is the only part that has that much paint on it. So I stopped on the trunk after i counted layers, and thought about going to get a chemical stripper. It would save a lot of time and hassle.

I would do that! make sure u do go to metal get off all the old paint and any old filler. i had 3 layers on my mustang and that old 60s paint on there might on mix with the new paint. so make sure to just take the time and do it right! And as wet as the weather has been i would be quick to get it in primer!

Well it's in my garage, and I have a dehumidifier hooked up, so I'm not worried about the rust. Do you have any recommendations on stripper?

Air craft stripper they sell it at autozone. Make sure to take off and keep away from anything not metal glass/plastics/rubber ect.

It's not even a little bit easy. If you can find the parts you need, it takes forever to actually get them. This is nothing though, I have a 1970 Lotus Europa, and it's even more difficult for that car. So much so that I put it on the back burner for a couple years.

Also, I got spoiled too. I did an MGB before this, and parts are super easy to get for it.

If you didn't trade me, I was going to get it going and run it with no fenders or hood... kinda as a rat rod. I LOVE that look on these cars, as ghetto as it it.
PS. Anymore pics of the bike?

The Bike in the background? If you want I can get you some more pictures of it.
It belongs to a Marine buddy of mine, the house he was renting go destroyed in the flood we had up here, and moved into an apartment, so he is storing it in my garage.
It's a nice bike if you're interested, I know he is selling it, asking $5,000. If you want more pics, let me know and I'll take some and if you know anyone who might want it, I'll find out what I can or put you in touch with my buddy. It's a really bad ass bike.
P.S. Evan, How do you honestly feel about the progress/plans for the car?

Got some stripper, it helped a lot on the trunk. It didn't take everything, but it took 6 of the 8 coats off, making my life easier, hopefully I can complete the trunk this week, as well as the drivers door!

I'd love to see some pictures! Honestly, I couldn't afford it right now, even at that price... which is great.

Hey Evan, thanks for the parts and title, I have not had a chance to get the shift knob out yet. It has beena ridiculous week.
I will get it out on Tuesday I think. Things are calming down Monday.

Very cool car. I picked up a 69 1600 a few months ago and have been debating on what to do with it. May just end up selling it as I have alot on my plate at the moment. Good luck with the project.
