So 2 days ago I went to racetrack and I was on empty. Filled it up to about Im guessing 40+ dollars. I usually never look at how much I put in, I just fill it up all the time to full with out paying attention how much I just spent. I just went on my bank account online and checked how is my balance and to see how much I actually put in other day.

This is what I saw.

PendingCHECKCARD (https://onlineeast3.bankofamerica.com/cgi-bin/ias/A/3/AccountDetailsControl?bofaAction=11&txnID=0) RACETRAC055
SNELLVILLE GA ON 10/23 https://onlineeast3.bankofamerica.com/eas-docs/images/type_generic_debit.gifhttps://onlineeast3.bankofamerica.com/eas-docs/images/statusicon_pending.gif-$1.00
https://onlineeast3.bankofamerica.com/eas-docs/images/clr.gif -1.00

it's saying that i only spent 1 dollar on racetrack, but when I actually spent 40+. This is my debit card. It' saying its pending, but shouldn't there be the actual amount. If it does stay 1 dollar charge only, shit I save over 40 bucks on gas.

Give it a few days, it may actually "correct" itself. It would be like a restaurant, the initial charge is on the card, but if you leave a tip, it wont show up for a few days. Give it till monday or tuesday to see if it changes.

Never seen a charge show up like that...usually they don't check to see if you have the right amount of money, just to see if it is a valid account. I would wait a couple days though to see what happens. Weird.

I'm with Bank of America and that is normal. The real amount will be debited later.

They charge you a one dollar when you initially enter the debit card information. This is simply to make sure the card is valid and has enough to cover the gas bill. Usually, if you have less than $20 available balance, the pump will reject your card. Then when you hang up the nozzle and the sale is complete, it goes into PENDING status. It takes about 3-4 days for it clear through the system. Once it does that, the $1 charge will be put back in your account and the amount you actually pumped will be deducted. Later, QD.

Lets see.

3 years=36 months
I refill about 3 times a month
36 months x 3=108 refills
108 charges and this never happened to me.

So yeah, to me its long time.

Sorry that I'm not your age, old man. :D

How would you ever know if they accidentally over charge you? if you never check (i highly doubt they would but still)

i bought some stuff the other day online, and i had 3 PENDING transactions for $360, even though i only spent $360.

My account said DEBIT PENDING TRANSACTION $360 ,$360, $360

I was like WTF they charged me 3 times! So i called my bank and they assured me that i had only been charged once, that for some reason it was just showing pending, and that in 2 days it would drop off.

So sure enough 2 days later i was credited back $720.

I was kinda pissed because $720 is not chump change to be tieing up for no reason

if you run your card as a debit at the pump it pre-authorizes your purchase according to whatever the stations preset is (could be $25, 35, 50, 10,000...whatever the gas stations preset is)

if you run your card as a credit it pre-authorizes anywhere from $1.00 to $5.00 depending on the card, the state, etc and the actual charge will show up 3-5 days later

moral of the story, always run your card as credit at a gas pump....b/c once an amount is pre-authorized it is unavailable until the actual amount clears which may cause you to bounce a purchase
