I bought it brand new last year from Walmart. I have no clue where my receipt is plus I'm pretty sure they have a 30 day return policy. I've played it a total of 30 times maybe and now it just stopped working.

Has anybody had to send theirs in to get repaired? Is it worth the hassle?

Is it turning on? Is it just not playing CDs/DVDs?

I had mine take a dive earlier this year where it quit playing/recognizing CDs/DVDs. I just sold it for about $100+ and used that money and bought a new one. Later, QD.

It turns on and then shows that smoke looking graphic going across the screen.

Now it says "the hard disk's file system is corrpted and will be restored".

I push ok and it loads restores to 100% and then it repeats the message. Piece of shit!

There is a guy in Roswell that runs a business fixing PS3's. His name is Gerry and he can fix anything that is fixable on a PS3. He fixed mine for me about a month ago when it wouldnt read disks. He also runs his services through ebay. He can do it same day if you bring it early. Here is a link to his ads on ebay

Normally runs about $100 max depending on whats wrong with it.

It started working again. I kept reloading when it said corrupted and it finally fixed it. Sweet!

I've been playing GT 5.

ya, i bought a 20 gig for 50 because the owner said the hard drive was shot. I replaced it with another laptop hard drive i played it safe with an 80 since some came with it and loaded the firmware. The process is easy just take any thumb drive doesn't need to be sony made. The root file is something like PS3<UPDATE<(the os file) something like that anyway
