Im just really wanting to have a job that will benefit me in the civilian word when I get out of the Airforce. I hear the job that you have is a good one..What are the ups and downs you have experience with that job in the air force?

Its a good job, with a few caviots

first is long hours
Ive been working 12 hour shifts the last 8 days. finally ended today.
Get really dirty, i dont care, some might

good thing?
If you like wrenching, and have a positive attitude, you will be fine.

as for outside. In order to work at most places, you need an A&P Liscense. The air force pays for about 85% of it. there are some expenses you need to poay for, but it wont total more than a few thousand.

im 5'5 195. i tried to go in the AF when i was 18 and they told me i had to drop down to 155! i dont know my fat % but im in very good shape, bench press 365, run a 4.6 40, and can run a mile in just over 6mins. i could prolly loose another 10-15 lbs and still be healthy. they wouldnt do a body fat index on me back in 05. do u think they would do one now? i still really wanna go in but these no way i can get to 155 with the way im built.

At th moment, i dont think they would. they arent under super need for people, BUT go recruiter to recruiter. say you want the body fat measurement. If you can meet the Pt requirements (which change in JAN10 btw) you shoudl be fine.

there is a waiver for EVERYTHING

What do you maintenance guys really think of Aerial Porters (2T2's)? lol I see the maintenance guys on the flight line and we don't really interract too much other than the occasional getting in our way.

your a rigger?
I got no problems with it. But you gotta realize. that is OUR plane. not yours, not the flying squadrons, not anyone but hte AMXS's plane. WE say you can take it, WE say it is safe for flight. You are in OUR way.

That being said, you should talk to us while you are around. Youd be surprised. I have tons of friends in tons of career fields. its the guys that think they are more important than us that piss us off.

Maintainers are the backbone of the air force, along with pilots and FEs and Loads and a few other career fields, and we know it. We are just as cocky as any other flying field, but if you are cool, we are cool with you man. Just how it is lol

I was 14lbs over my max weight when I came in last October but I taped under 20 percent body fat so I was able to get in. Only waiver I needed was for having my son out of wedlock, show some initiative and getting in is not a problem.

I really want to join the AF. I tried to some years ago and talked to a recruiter, but they wouldn't let me in because I have asthma. Is there any way around that?

YokotaS13

doubt it honestly, unless your doc can say you can run x amount of time, and do high intensity stuff without a problem

We have a TSgt that has Asthma but I believe the AF is trying to get her out cause of it. Basically with the new PT standards if you cannot finish that run you either need to fix it or get out. Its really competitive to get in right now, I was told 3% of the people who come into the recruiters office actually ship off to basic.

but that is due to 97% of the population tryign to get in the armed forces are idiots.
Its a fact that tha majority of people that try and joined any branch is either:
Uneducated
ignorant
lazy
or no point in life

Do u know any info. on people joining already with an A&P. I have thought about the Airforce after school (a&p school)(1 month left). I have talked to a few guys who had their A&P while in and most of them were in manager type positions.

a&p wont get you anything more, maybe A1c as you enlist depending on your recruiter
i was thinking about getting my a&p. but then i realized i dont want to do this at 50

I agree, everyone I have ever met joined bc they were pathetic and idiots, but I guess the military can change that if anything

I have been thinking about joining the Air Force for about 6 months...but I dont want to go to a recruiter and recive not enough information or get bull shi**ed what can YOU tell me about the asvab...waht you love about the air force comapared to the other armed services and what basic was like and what to expect

Asvab is cake if you arent dumb
if you are, get a study guide, and study it

I love the air force because of Living conditions. NO roomates, less deployments (depending on AFSC of course), better family services, etc etc
Its just overall more pleasant to be in.

Basic, its cake. learn to run. Be able to do a mile and a half in 11 minutes or so
a pushup a second
a situp a second

you shoudl be able to pass everything fine

its how it is
BUT
i bet if you have it ready to go, waiting on the signature, they would be much happier.

maintenance has it rough, we have 5-10 different people asking constantly about the same thing, in a super urgent manner at all times.

I love our supply guy, dude is on top of his shit.
