that is for sale and I went to look at it and in the car was a Failed Emissions report. the NOx was almost double the state limit. I've read that the EGR can cause this(maybe carbon buildup), or engine overheating, high compression due to carbon buildup, or timing issues. The car has about 180,000 miles on it and is selling for under 3000. Is this still worth looking into? Does the dealer have to cover costs to pass emissions?

BUt! i would stay away, unless you know for sure whats the deal.... or ask them to fix it and you will buy it... and work out a deal on the price to fix.. maybe.

Yeah, thats what I intend to do if i purchase it. There is a shop right across from it that will diagnose it for free. There no engine lights on or anything. I just checked the laws and yes it is illegal. They have to provide the emissions report and may resolve with the buyer to fix it. I found this very useful site that has both seller and buyer obligations in GA.
