Ummm... They are retard proof. If you aren't in to computers than go for the mac. Just like someone that isn't in to cars would buy a Prius rather than a Corvette...

what ever you are getting the mac for i.e. business or school or even pleasure:ninja: remember that mac, apple mostly everything is proprietary. Want a new keyboard, gotta buy a apple one. As for documents and stuff, i hear that it is par for the mac having the patch to read .doc files and such. My teacher is spsu has hard times with .doc files with a patch, so we have to either send it as a pdf or just copy and paste into a email:crazy:

here is the basis for why macs are so expensive.everything on macs is hardware specific.only certain components will work with a mac.the advantage to having a pc is the ability to upgrade to better stuff for cheaper, but you will run the risks of problems that can be easily avoided by having a mac,i.e. security issues and performance.i see macs as being for those who have a better understanding of computers than the average person and have the ability to utilize them toi their potential because they have alot to offer.if it's for school and you're not doing stuff like graphics, web design, photography, video,or even audio, then you need to go for a pc because it would be cheaper for you and would give you a good way to learn the computer better before you get in over your head.i own a g5 and 2 macbook pros as well as other microsoft machines that my wife uses and eventually my daughter.pc are good......but macs are so much better imo.

Doesn't sound like you are going to be doing anything too fancy with it, so not much to worry about when it comes to "extra" money for programs.

I have a Mac. I have no problems with it or compatibility. My HP printer works fine. My wireless non mac keyboard works fine. My wireless non mac mouse works fine. My Western Digital external hard drive works fine. Bootcamp that comes with all of the new mac computers fixes all the rest of the Windows "issues".

I got one for Dan's dad. He is 70 and kept getting viruses on his PC because he and his friends look at porn (tee hee) and other questionable sites. So, I got him the Mac and not a virus or any other problems since. He loves it and thinks it was well worth the money. He had very little learning problems when it came to the switch from PC to Mac and he is 70.

You also get face to face, awesome customer service with the Mac. I had mine replaced with a brand new one 6 months out of warranty. It had to be fixed 4 times, but I had spilled a vodka and cranberry on it. Go figure. It was all my fault and they replaced it.

You can get one refurbished here: http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac?mco=Nzc1MjQzMw

They carry the same 2 year warranty that the new ones carry and they are usually upgraded, too. You just have to hawk the website because once they put them up they put them up in groups and the good ones go fast because the price is so low. So just check it every day a couple times a day when you are ready.

Tracy is right, my boss bought a Mac for the same reason. He did not want virus problems and hasn't had any since he's bought it. At the time he was looking, i mentioned it had dual boot capability, which was apple's OS X operatiing system. He liked the idea of having windows b/c our work pcs allowed remote login but you needed a windows environment. PLus he had MS Office. Since he wasn't super tech savy, this helped seal the deal for him and he hasn't looked back. Initially he couldn't get the dual boot to work and then finally it worked.

yeah mac is more simple to use, everything is made easy and right in front of you. And you get no virus.

windows you have do manually do everything yourself, and you can get virus.

well i'm a window user for since i can remember, i tried mac but i sticked to window just because i'm use to doing everything myself just easier for me IMO.

but thats just me alot of people like mac, i like the way it looks hehe.

GL with your buy!

the reason he couldn't dual boot with OSX and xp/vista is because when you try to dual with windows on mac,the linux.lni is on the boot sector and wont allow anything else to get on there.eventually you can do it,but, you will never be able to boot with windows only because the linux.lni will always be there.you would have to do a new install with windows once the HD is wiped clean.

lol i disagree with a post above, i feel windows does way to much for the user. its more MANUAL using the MAC...but more intuitive and smart. I mean...look at the "cancel or allow" feature, that shit is annoying as hell and you have to REBOOT to turn it off lol.

I'm using both, though I use windows a lot more. MAC is good because it's not a resource hog.

The reason that Mac's dont have Viruses is they are only 6% of the market share. (to give you an example, acer is also 6% of the market share). If you are out there making viruses, would you make it to affect 6% of the market, or 94% of the market. If macs do get more popular, then they will start getting some i assure you.

The main differences are this:

1. Macs are more expensive for hardware that is behind pc's. They are just in the past year or so using intel processors, and the ones they use are slower than high end pc's. They also charge you about twice as much for the same or less hardware.

2. Macs are more idiot proof. Everything is simplified. If your not very savvy with computers, then this is a good thing.

3. there are some issues with compatibility, however if you are just using it for school and home usage then you shouldnt have any issues. But you can buy a lot more software for a PC, than a Mac.

4. In the Graphic's department, macs kick ass. They are faster at rendering graphics and have true color printing, unlike a PC. So if you do lots of rendering video or graphics, then its the way to go.

It really depends on you, but you can buy a high end Dell laptop for probably 800-1500 bucks, and do everything you want, or a mac would cost you 2000-2600, for the same or less hardware. That is what aggravates me about macs is they over charge you for everything and everything is proprietary. And yes you can buy a refurbished one, but you can also buy a refurbished Dell high end laptop for around 600-800 bucks, so still cheaper than mac.

honestly the biggest complaints i hear about windows h8ters and mac users "MACS DON'T GET VIRUSES".... guess what neither do windows users who aren't retards!

seriously i can't even tell you the last time i was infected by anything... people who get infected either click on random BS ads/popups or download random BS.

my checklist for windows users:

- 2+gb of ram (needed to cover all resources needed)
- firefox (faster and better than IE (don't try to delete IE either))
- AVG free (yes its free and it works fine; actually no difference between free/corp edition); keep it up to date w/ automatic updates/scans
- Malewarebytes (you have to pay for or get a key (Spybot is a good substitution for this; except teatimer app can be a resource hog)); keep up to date w/ automatic updates/scans
- make sure you show all file extensions in windows
- unless you are downloading from a large reputable source like microsoft, adobe, pc manufacture (ie. dell, hp), etc... scan all exe w/ avg before opening.
- do not download media from the web (movies, music, software)
- when installing software do custom setup and make sure you don't install any unneeded toolbars, applications bundled w/ the program you need

you do the above you probably just knocked your chances to getting anything down quite a bit. even i've picked up stuff surfing but it hasn't been anything my software couldn't catch/clean.

IF YOU HAVE A PC AND YOUR ON THE INTERNET W/O A GOOD VIRUS/SPAM PROTECTION ITS LIKE FUCKING AN AIDS PATIENT W/O A CONDOM! :goodjob:

Example:

Mac: Refurbished
17" screen
Intel 2.66 core 2 duo processor
4 Gigs of ram
320 gig HD
$1949.00
http://store.apple.com/us/product/FB604LL/A?mco=MTA4MzI3MzU

Dell: Refurbished
A bunch of them for around the same stats:
$579.00

http://outlet.us.dell.com/ARBOnlineSales/topics/global.aspx/arb/online/en/InventorySearch?c=us&cs=22&l=en&lob=INSP&MODEL_DESC=Inspiron%2017%20-%201750&s=dfh

You could buy 3 Dells for the same price to buy one mac. For the same exact hardware, so you are paying 3 times as much for Mac, OSX.

Not to mention, those Core 2 Duo processors are very overclockable, and you cannot overclock them on a Mac. I have mine a core 2 duo 2.4 running at 3.6 on air cooling.

Exactly!! PS. the malwarebytes is free, for the scanning yourself, but if you want to have it do auto scans, then you have to buy it or get a key.

And if anyone is having problems you should download Malware bytes and update it and scan your PC. Its free and you can get it here:

Macs are very overpriced. If you like the OS, build a hackintosh instead. As long as you can read directions it's not that hard.

I triple boot XP, Leopard, and Ubuntu on my quad-core Dell desktop. I gotta admit. I use leopard more.
