How can i tell if my distributor went bad?

yea im guessing its the coil. it will want to crank but dont stay on. it has been sounding fishy for the past week so i figured its the dizzy

i had this situation
i got a d16y8 in below car
and when my dizzy went bad almost a year ago..i had very bad symptoms...this silly mechanic made me waste almost $500 including labor on the parts for my car...he tried to tweak and fuck around to make my car run right..changed rotor and cap twice...still nothing car would run fine for a week or two then go back to messing up...shutting off..

my smyptoms were, my car would shut off on the highway....on any road...and it would rev up to 7k like it normally does, but would hesitate and feel like power is being cut somewhere along the way
it was very scary @ times, especially when youre going 75mph on the highway and all power cuts out!

anyway, my guess was the dizzy, we had even changed the starter, and ignition components cuz of the dumb mobile mech.
finally we gave in, took the damn car to joey watkins off braeselton highway...$600 out of my pocket, brand new dizzy
no problems since

get the coil pack from another car. a bseries will work, i use SOHC guts in b dizzys all the time, im sure it will work other way around ... gay :gay:
