Clutch Recommendations?

I'm looking for some recommendations from you guys on a clutch. I'm running the Competition Clutch 4-puck stage 5 clutch kit right now, but I'm not too fond of it. I understand it's more of a "race" clutch, but it didn't last me that long. It also chatters a good bit too. So... I'm looking for a clutch that could hold me for awhile daily driving and could also hold up to 390hp and 279tq when I need it to. I don't beat on my car everyday and I rarely hit even 5 psi 90% of the time. I don't mind a harsh engagement, just as long as it's not impossible to drive in traffic, neither do I like soft pedals. I've been out of the "scene" for a minute, but I've seen a company named LSD... Anyone heard of it?

have you tried exedy? I had exedy stage 2, the tri-puck and it was comfortable for daily but could hold power when need be. Just a thought, but you could try the hyper twin disc.

Hrm. We mostly use Competition Clutches. Iw ould call them and talk to them about what might work better for you. Not all of them are "race" clutches. I don't know how the stages work and all of that, but it sounds like maybe you got too much clutch for your car. But iono. I just know that we use them and recommend them to our customers. We have used some Exedy products and enjoy them, but Competition is the better bang for the buck IMO.

maybe its the driver. i used that same clutch for 4-5 straight in my dd never had a issue. when i parted everything out i still got a pretty penny back for it.

We rebuild them once a year just to be safe, but not because of issues.

they should last quite a bit. I had a act extreme pressure plate with a organic disc and it had a ton life left when i pulled it out. How long did it last you?

Clutch Masters stage 4/5 and you will be happy. Good all around clutches....I have had 4 friends with the stage 5's and 2 with the 4's and they both was awesome clutches and I think the 5's are guaranteed not to slip. I had good luck with competition clutches with my honda's and acura's but not with the srt-4 it wants to slip when it is not suppost to at my power level.

Competition and Exedy are pretty decent clutches from my experience. I am about to have to drop $1600 on a Exedy twin disk set up for my ride.

Exedy lower end clutches SUCK imo.

Shandy for that kind of power the Competition Clutch should hold no problem . But dont expect it to be like an OEM clutch that lasts 75000 miles, id say it would last 40-50K TOPS , even less when you beat on it.

Yeah, It's probably me haha. No offense taken. I'll probably drop down to a stage 4 6-puck instead though. I contacted them and they said stage 4 should have been plenty, even though I talked to them a couple years ago and they said definitely go with stage 5. I'm definitely not tryin to go twin disc.

Next question would be... would I be able to use the stage 5 pressure plate with the stage 4 disc?

Just go twin disk and be one with it. The Exedy twin disk is a great set up. My partner who is a transmission GURU has been dealing with them for years (900 hp+ cars), and thinks quite a lot of the twin disk set up IF you need to hold some decent power. We are not talking about a 300 whp car here though. Stock Exedy , or stage 1 set up can hold that for most cars.

I've used plenty of Comp Clutch kits of various stages and they have always broke (springs pop out etc) but now I'm using an ACT clutch kit consisting of their Heavy Duty Pressure Plate & Sprung Disc which does chatter a little but besides that everything has held up well; pressure is firmer but won't kill your leg.

I actually have a brand new ACT-HD Pressure Plate for sale too (LMK).

shit i used an ebay stage 2 f1racing clutch and beat the fuck out of it, never had a single problem lol

id recommend competition or spec, exedy or act. their all good, look into fidanza shit too

I've heard about the springs too. Sounds like the ACT heavy duty was probably what I was looking for, but I've just bought the Competition Clutch 6 puck. I'll give this clutch a shot.

I sold that clutch too Kevint707 i loved it. Or try the twin disk man, it really aint that bad driving it daily, thats what i had in my 4dr and i drove it daily thru downtown traffic.

for that power you can use a stage 3 or 4..., or was the current one a sprung or unsprung? I used a stage 5 sprung for a long time with 500++ on the streets with no chatter. Stage 5 gives up at 400 torque, ive seen stage 3's hold 400 HP+ all day long.
