well i some of you know im planning on rebuilding my gsr in the nxt couple months and well i was wondering if this was a good price?

and i dont want to bore my block so would part #189681-CR 9:0:1 be ok since im planning on boosting? im shooting for 350whp nothing realy crazy just something i can have fun with

just so you know the je piston re quire a big piston to wall clearance...

on my build i used je standard bore gsr flatops..... they were a little sloppy in the cylinders.... my best advice having thought the same thin you are. its deffinately worth gettin your block bored and sizing the pistons accordingly.

my engine is running fine but until it warms up it a little noisey.

i payed 250 bux for my pistons and eagle rods :) so no that is not a good price. :P

for brand new products its not a steal or a deal. just about average prices.

250 for a set of JE pistons and aftermarket rods is a deal that most people will never see... $500 would be more inline... Its not uncommon for a forged piston to make "some" noise when the engine is cold.. When they heat up, they expand and the noise goes away. I have a GSR block right now sitting on a stand that was built by inline pro.. It is was sleeved to stock bore.. JE pistons and you can wiggle them slightly from side to side..

^ yea 250 is a deal you will rarely come by. And about the JE's, so they are supposed to wiggle? B/c I don't plan on boring my block I just want to be able to set em right it.

yeah they do wiggle.... like a 1/16" lol at first i was like wtf..... but heres the deal..... after running your car and then honing it slightly your opening up the cylinder walls a bit..... after your motor breaks in and your cylinder walls glaze and rings seat your tolerances could grow out of mark.... but thats all hypothetical....


if i were spending 500+ on parts id also spend the few hundred to get it bored just right. i based my whole build just on the fact that i got a killer deal on my pistons and rods..... so you can see the catch 22.

^^gotcha. guess ima look into some machine shops...how much would i have to get it bored for standard bore pistons??

well standard bore is factory so honestly you cant really use that unless you sleeve.... you can go with oversize pistons if you like....

id get first oversize and have the machinist bore it to the proper piston wall clearance with the final hone.... that way its perfect.....

im sure theres a bunch of ia members that could point you to a good machine shop to do the job....
