i recently bought a mytouch from someone on craigslist. The phone is asking for the previous owners password for his gmail. Is there a way i can put my own account without restarting the phone?

you have to reset it if u want to use your own gmail.

Just do a factory reset on the phone, then you can put in your particulars :D
