Alright fellas.
First the facts:
Current wheels are 17x7 et 45 with General Ex UHP 205/40/17.
No rubbing, pretty much ever, so vertical room is fine. Ive got prolly 7-10mm of horizontal clearance in the back before the the tires in the lip of my fender, so fine back there.

The issue:
I want to get a meatier look for the tires. My first inclination is to go with a 215/40/17. The only problem, is that that size will put me 1.4% too slow. Will this be fine? I think that it's recommended to stay within 2%, is that correct.
How much wider can I expect the actual wheel to be?
I figured it might also clear up some of the wheel gap.
Also of note, I may run 5mm spacers all around, but that wouldn't be till after I got the tires.
Please advise.
The tires I'm looking at FYI:

Won't be too much wider...id go with a 215/45ZR17. That way it's a little wider and a little taller.

Cause that equals spending $1200 on coilovers.

They don't make those in many models.

Hmmm, you're right. Maybe a little to tall for your car. Do they make a 215/40?

Andy,
if you you go to a nice reputable shop such as Discount Tire, they'll be more than happy to test fit tires for you and put them on the car and lower it to show you what they look like and to see if they rub and stuff. I do it all day long, free of charge.
Just to give you another idea before you blow money on something you won't be satisfied
:)
I miss you, homie!

That's pretty cool of you guys. At my dealership, we'll do it sometimes. Depending on how busy we are.

Sure man, whatever you want!
We usually just put one on the front wheel and drop it and turn your wheel all the way left and right to see if there's any clearance issue. And, you can see if they look right or not

Usually, we do it for regulars, and who ever asks really. We do offer free rotations and half off balances for buying from us. Plus, we are very competitive with pricing. So, we usually have satisfied customers.
