I installed a new thermostat the other day and now when the car gets to normal temp it shuts off. could the thermostat possibly be facing the wrong direction, i was careless when i took it out and didnt pay attention to where the little copper pin was facing. anyone have experience with this?

It shouldn't just shut off. Is it getting real hot or anything?

i was also having an IAC issue before this? could the IAC cause it not to run once it gets to normal temp?

MX5atlanta might be more help. I dont know why it'd shut off. Even if it was over-heating there would be damage done, not an auto-shutoff. Wierd idle or anything showing a vac leak? have you done a comp test to check damage to the head gasket?

You hook up all the sensors correctly?

rodger. shit is trippin me out, im thinkin maybe the new thermo is just faulty cause the IAC has to have coolant run trough it to work correctly and if the thermo isnt opening up at normal temp (like it should) then the IAC wouldnt be sufficient.

u should check the iacv. I have never seen it get that bad where it cuts off. does it sputter and die slow? or just cut off? you can bypass it and run the car and see if that helps. its been awhile since I worked on a b6. but it sounds like that might be your problem.

yes, when it gets to normal temp it will start to sputter and then just die and not crank back till its cooled down.
