Just posted today, nearly completely undisguised.

More spy photos of the production Lexus LF-A supercar pounding round the Nurburgring have emerged.

The Lexus LF-A, which will go on sale in October priced around £300,000, will be officially unveiled at the Tokyo Motor show next month and just 500 examples will be built over the next two or three years, depending on how long it takes to sell that many cars.

20 cars are earmarked for the UK, starting in early 2010, and each owner being introduced to their car at a private circuit in Spain by one of Toyota’s hand-picked driving superstars.

The car, which began life in 2003, will be fitted with a 5.0-litre V10 engine that can be revved to an extraordinary 9,000rpm.

Lexus engineers are confident the unit will produce around 550bhp with ease and with a power to weight ratio 366.6bhp per tonne performance should be up with a Ferrari 599, the car’s main competitor.

Stopping power is expected to come courtesy of carbon ceramic rotors sitting behind 20-inch wheels.

Suspension is by double wishbones and coil-over dampers at the front with a multi-link arrangement and coil-over dampers at the back.

The chassis-tub is made from carbon composite, which will give the Lexus LF-A with one of the stiffest shells in production car history, and the outer body skin will be made from aluminium.

Yes, but it only has 4 cylinders. Generally, more cylinders = lower redline. For instance, I believe the redline for a viper (also 10 cylinders) is something like 6k. 9k is very high revving in this case.

I can buy a supra and put a kit on it and dump the rest of the cash into the motor to make more power...all under 100K :)

F1 engines are 8-12 cylinders but only a few liters. Inline engines naturall rev much higher than V engines.

Ah, as I was typing it I knew something was off. Thanks for the correction.

Regardless I stand by my "generally" statement, my reasoning was just off. Because while there are obviously exceptions (as you pointed out), generally more pistons = more displacement :)

However you cut it, it's an impressive redline that shouldn't be shrugged off just because a type R can do it.

Whats the price tag on that gonna be? Overall its a ok looking car, kinda reminds me of a DB9

I like the way it looks, you can definitely see the older Supra's styling cues in the bodywork.

The only thing I see that this car has in common with the Veyron is the fact that it's been in development forever.

Difficult to make a big engine with .5 L per cylinder rev that high. That's why the Audi RS4's 4.2 liter 8000 RPM V8 is so impressive.

I think it is ugly. Estimated MSRP? What are the targeted competitors?

Or the E92 M3's 4.0 L V8 that delivers 420HP and revs to 8,300.

THis car is a celebration of LExus 20th anniversary and taking Lexus to the next level. There are 2 rumored powerplants, a V-10 under 5 liters and a V-8 hybrid powertrain. The car is completely bespoke and shares nothing with any other Lexus, Toyota ever. Carbon FIber and aluminum yet can be driven daily with the usual Lexus luxurious.

Is about the size of a 911 and they only plan to sell 500 (but I think they might try to sell more).

Pricing has been rumored anywhere from 150k to over 300k. I know dealerships have taken deposits and names. There are 169 Lexus dealers in Japan and I've heard they will get one each. There are 270 or so in America and some dealerships have 5 deposits already.

People that buy this car don't buy one over the other. They buy ALL of them :D and now have an exotic Lexus to buy.

From here, the Lexus sport program will work on more cars like the next IS-F, a future GS-F and other "F" models as Lexus expands its sport lineup.

The redline for the viper is like right at 6 at about .83 Litre per cylinder.

I don't like that funky like that follows the bumper/headlight corner/fender. Roofline/b-pillar look much like the 350Z...but not bad. On that fron 2/4 shot, if you block off the front bumper, it's looks like it could be an evolution of the F430..once again, not bad. I do like the side shot and the rear though :goodjob:

Ummm  There is a big difference between what it takes to get a long crankshaft and all those parts to balance correctly in order to rev that high and what it takes to get a short crankshaft on a 4-cylineder with less than half the moving parts to rev that high. Stroke is probably kept short to keep piston speeds down in order to achieve such a high redline.
