quick question on my motor in the civic I just bought a few weeks ago.

Its a d16y7 with a d16z6 head.

I was driving yesterday and went to go over a speed table and I was around 2000rpms. I pressed in the clutch and the car died. I tried to restart it a few times but it wouldn't start. I parked it on the side of the road and checked everything I could but found nothing wrong. I put in another distributor in after checking for spark and not getting any. Still wouldn't start. I went to test the distributor and couldn't get to the rotor screw. I ran a wire from the + to the starter and when it rotated the distributor didn't rotate but the cam gear did.

Question
1: could this have damaged the valves? I guess the only way to know is to get the head off or to get it running and see what hapens. right?
2: will a d15b7 cam gear work on a Z6 head?

car is still sitting on the side of the road because I can't afford a tow truck or any car parts right now.

thanks

If the cam itself isn't turning but the gear is, most likely the cam gear wasn't put on the cam properly and probably has done damage to the valves. Did you pull off the VC and inspect the cam while you were turning the engine over?

if the timing belt is still intact i would say no. a compression test will tell u. based off a not broken cam.

dont know

I watched the cam and its not moving when I turn over the motor. I pulled the bolt out of the cam that holds on the cam gear and the key is turned sideways and tore up. I can't get the cam gear off because its sitting of the side of the road 2miles from my house. Hopefully my friend will show up with a truck soon and I can drag it home and tear it apart tonight.

liability only and no road side. Now if my bikes broke down I would be covered. LOL

I stopped by my car and talked to the owner of the property and explained my situation and he said I could leave it there. He let me move it to the side of his driveway so the city wouldn't tow it.

Hopefully I can get a truck tomorrow after work.

I finally got my car home. I ended up borrowing a rope and took the explore (with a cracked intake manifold gasket and water pouring out of the motor) over and me and my brother dragged it home.

Got the cam gear off and the key was sheered off. The cam seized :( due to a over tightened timing belt:2up: So now I need a new head for my Y7 block.

pics of carnage. (Bad quality from my phone)
