K, few questions.

A. Why the MSI Eclipse and not the EVGA Classified board? MSI has crap reviews compared to classified.

B. Why buy heatspreaders for RAM that already has OEM heatspreaders?

C. Why 3 GTX 260's vs a couple of 285's or 3 275's (Only $10 more)

D. Also, why spend $1200 on RAM? Seriously, you don't see that much performance gain...

Just my :2cents:

this build was nothing more than a shot a trying to build a machine that would run as fast, good,or better than a mac would.i already own a machine,a mac, that is way beyond what i feel almost anyone would ever need for a personal computer, but i had it made up in my mind to get that and i did.the msi has 10 sata ports whereas the evga has only nine.to expand upon that, you would be spending more with the board and cables than to just stick with the msi.secondly,i have had no problems, major, with msi boards.the reason i got heatspreaders for the ram was because if i am going to be running that amount of ram at the specs that i am wanting it to be running at,i will need more than just the stock heat spreaders they come with.i am going witht he 3 260s because if i wanted to do it my way,i would have crossfired 2 4870s and gotten better 3D marks than anything evga makes or you could get with any SLI configuration.i chose these cards because i can get better performance from three of these and for less than getting two of any of the others.if i really wanted to spend alot on a video card and get it all and better than the others,i would've gone ahead and gotten a pny workstation card and oveclocked that, but i don't want to spend $2500 on a video card alone.the reason i chose this ram was because i am building a machine that will be maxed out in every area possible and then try to push it to the edge in all areas.overclocking the ram, processor, video card, etc.

besides, what it all boils down to is that i do this for a hobby.i got my quarterly bonus and stock increase, have no real bills anymore, done all the traveling i care to do,accomplished a good bit of everything i wanted to do in life.i have a great job,a wonderful wife, beautiful baby girl, and a great dog in addition to it all.what else if there is nothing outside of here that i want or desire and i have a hobby, why would i not just want to do what i enjoy doing?that's all it is to me is a hobby.i build them and then some people at work will look or be interested in them and i will end up selling it or in some cases, giving it to them if their child/children really need one.i just like having fun, enjoying life, seeing people enjoy life, seeing people happy, making people happy, and being able to be that person in a person's life that help them meet that need that they couldn't meet on their own or give them the help they need to meet it.

I wasn't insulting you or anything, was just asking why you chose what you did. Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one and I was just expressing mine. Don't get on the defensive. I'm sure it will be a great build I was just curious as to why you chose the options that you did.

fair enough.i wasn't trying to sound abrasive or come across to your questions as being defensive.i was simply saying why i chose what i did,why i am needing those parts, and then simply stating why i am doing it and for who sometimes.again, sorry if i came across like that to you,but that was not the intention at all.

I was reading about the quad SLI that EVGA is rolling out . According to there website they are first. That would be cool to try that out...QUAD sli for the win.

SSD, is awesome. The OCZ vertex i just purchased has been great and is def. the bottle neck all these years. Boot times are good and apps launch almost instantaneously. Also, i just read about OCZ new PCI-e SSD. Those things are just monsters @ like triple throughput of the vertex. Read about them here - http://www.tomshardware.com/news/ocz-z-drive-ssd-solid-state,8684.html and here - http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/solid_state_drives/ocz_z_drive_e84_pci_express_ssd

Let us know boot times and app launch impressions, when you pull this beast together.

That's a nice ass build, and I love that case and most of the cases silverstone makes. :goodjob:

I hope you're one of the people who can actually use this computer, and not just one who builds it to boast on how much storage/processing power it has with no real intent to fully implement it, I hate those types

lol!!read my previous posts and replies to people's comments.i do use these numbers and machines, but i also do it for those who can't afford or aren't able to have great machines.i have a mac, dual xeon processors/32GB RAM/7TB internal/etc.,that i have for myself and another machine i built for my wife plus our 3 mac book pros.if i build and do use,i DO use all that power,if not,i have made someone happy and have the ability to do everything they will ever need!
