i am woundering what has happend to custom cars. back in tha day there were alot of cool lookin cars that had alot of love and time in them. now all i see is freakin jdm crap and cars that all look the same. what the hell is this about? some jdm stuff is nice but it aint all that.
i kinda miss some of the old body kits and wide body kits, molded kits and shaved door handles even civics on bags tuckin 17's and 18's and homemade turbo kits haha
i am anti-jdm :D

I don't like JDM style either, it's not even real JDM half of what you see, I call it west coast-wannabe-JDM. It's like Honda owners got a taste of the west coast and drifters emo weird trends and mixed it together.
I like some cars with body kits and all, I can respect a well done car even if I personally don't like it or not. I respect hard work.
Hell half the pride and joy on this site is a Civic on no name coilovers with Rotas and an eBay lip. Hard work my ass. Then when anyone with something different, unique, or just weird comes around, it's hated on for going away from the trend.
Sorry for the long rant.

It just all has to do with what people like. I think the whole JDM thing is gone...i mean people still rock JDM parts...but its NOTHING like what it used to be when people wanted nothing but factory JDM parts or optional parts. I remember seeing hatches with every part you could imagine....even down to road flares and little trunk lights. That was cool for a while and ALWAYS got attention back then.
I think everyone just grew out of it like we did body kits and the whole "JDM" thing is just too widely used in the wrong way. Just because its clean and simple does not mean its "JDM".

awesome! i wish people would start building cars to please themselves instead of everyone else. it would make goin to meets and shows even to the strip more entertaining.

I personaly belive its just the way you look at it.Now a days people Buy cars already Modified and already lowered with some rims that makes them semi "JDM".I think the whole JDM thing is actually really cool when you do it yourself that is , the best way to get the feeling is when you buy a Car COMPLETELY stock and then you give it its look for Example i Bought a Hatch completely stock as if it had came off the factory floor it had hubcaps and stock cassette player and since then ive devoted time and money into it and now when i look at it i feel very proud of it. -sorry for long opinion

Its just a little cleaner IMO. I do not call myself JDM by any means but merely putting some parts on it that i think look better than what the US equipped it with.
I did the custom thing also and can appreciate the work that goes into someones vehicle. I won trophies and all that. got the raffle prizes blahblahblah....
Like someone said earlier, Im just doin me...if that makes me a ricer to a few people then, lol whatever...i like it and it makes me smile every time i get in it, no matter what style anyone thinks it is.
What other people think and say about me is none of my business.

This is spot on, its bs when someone who builds their car the way they want it and takes time a to share pics with the site it gets ragged on. Because its not "clean", the wheels are too much, or it isn't low enough, blah blah. I would love to see people get back into true custom cars built with blood sweat and tears again, not just ebay and a credit card.
This thread seems a year or two late. I'm seeing JDM phase out. I was in Nashville during Import Alliance, and the majority of cars I saw around town were low-offset, stretched tires, and slammed (the whole euro thing). That's where I see the scene going (unfortunately). I mean JDM is still around, but nothing like it once was. Honestly, I see far more posts on here bashing "JDM" than showing it off.
Personally, I have no problem with a simple, clean car. Some people just aren't into flashy cars. What I don't like are people that brag about how great and special their practically stock car looks. My opinion is like the "I hate stock rims" thread. I really don't have a problem with people who put integra rims on a civic. I have a problem with people that do it and think hey have the hottest car on the road.
Basically do what you do. I drive a stock looking car, slightly lowered on rims. I have the rims for wider tires and am lowered as a bi-product of a better handling setup. I personally think my car looks mean as hell, but I promise you that not once in my modification process did I think "Man this would look so JDM"

i hear ya man maybe i am late a little but i just hate TRENDS and that people are so worried about what is hot and what is not they put little or no part of themselves into thier car. so then we have a ton of trendy plain and simple cars.but hey if thats what the trend is then i guess it ok lololol

I can definitely agree with that :goodjob:
Like you, I hate it when people follow a trend just for the sake of following a trend.

:goodjob: Same here. I modded my car the way I wanted it to be. I didn't follow any trends. A lot of people do not like my car and that is fine. At the end of the day the only thing that matters is I like it.
