Highland Park, Illinois
"Ferris Bueller's Day Off" House
370 Beech St.
60035
$2,300,000

This architectural treasure, constructed of steel and glass and cantilevered over lushly wooded ravines, is truly the ULTIMATE ADDRESS for the buyer who requires space and seclusion only 25 minutes drive from downtown Chicago. Though world famous for the site of the iconic movie " Ferris Bueller's Day Off", the real value of these two Meis van der Rohe inspired buildings, on almost an acre, is the quality of the architecture and construction, never to be duplicated in such a setting. The vistas of natural woods with the green leaves blowing softly in the wind creates magnificent shadings and a tranquil setting for the viewers. The 3800SF main house, designed for the Ben Rose family by A. James Speyer in 1953, the first graduate student of Meis van der Rohe, was so far ahead of it's time that the bathrooms and kitchens are still in style today. The vast size of the great room with the free standing fireplace, the Nanny's room and bath off the kitchen, and the large master bedroom with walk in closet are all features sought after by today's buyers. There are two other family bedrooms and a study used by the previous owner for his studio where he designed his famous line of fabrics and graphics on permanent display at Chicago's Art Institute. In the pavilion, where Cameron's father's classic red Ferrari catapulted through the huge glass windows into the ravine 100 feet below, there is a kitchen and full bath as well as space for 6-8 classic sports cars. Ben Rose and his wife had this building designed and built in 1973 by David Haid, a protege of A. James Speyer. They used it for his art studio as well as his collection of race cars that they both drove in rallies. It also works well as a guest house or a wonderful entertainment center where there is plenty of room to dance the night away. The home has been featured on all the major web-sites around the world and filmed by the local and most national TV stations. It will be on NBC's Sunday Home Tour, August 2nd at 10:30 am. We have been asked so many times if a red Ferrari, especially a vintage one or facsimile, will be included with the home and the estate has agreed to give the buyer a very special one at our asking price of $2,300,000.

I would just park the Evo in the garage and never drive it. Then I could rub it with a diaper. I would know the mileage if my son ever tried to "borrow" it...

I know when I'll be looking for a house, I'm going to look for a nice garage, lolll.Fine, you take the house and garage and I'll take the gym. I'll do a full interior remodel into an industrial loft design from floor to ceiling in it. Sectioning off between the shop, showroom, and living area with glass. The shop being 100% italian slate floor with all stainless steel fixtures, cabinets, toolboxes, carts, and even lifts. Same with the showroom: all silver, graphite, or charcoal colored cars and one red Ferrari F40 in the center. *pinches self*

Something like this with a little bit warmer feeling, adding hardwood mixed with italian slate and some brick. If you've ever been in film studio you know anything imaginable can be built inside a box...

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

I rather have that.blah, too traditional and have to contend with Chesapeake Bay weather. Might be ok for a couple months during the summer but they aren't showing how much garage space!
