Blood Mountain Meet 10/17/2009

So we are planning on going to Blood Mountain on October 17th and grilling out at the top. Its a lot of fun just to drive the road but having a meet at the top will just make it oh so much better. Not to mention, it will be the middle of fall so the view will be beautiful for all you photogs.

Bring Your OWN FOOD TO GRILL OUT OR EAT WHILE WE GRILL.

We will be meeting at The Walmart off of Exit 4 of of 985 Parking Lot at 10:30am and leaving at 11am. The drive is 40 miles from the address posted.

cool, how far north do you want to go?? thinking a loop or a couple different loops? i've found a few nice side roads to run down and back to the loops...i'm sure some people may want to drop out a little early too...

where to eat?? vogal or we could probably all post up by that rock climbing wall up 60 (where they have the bicycle speeds painted on the road)...there is a big open corner off the road that could probably fit 20ish cars?? i thought you had mentioned a place you had in mind but can't find it in the posts now.

but for real, i'm not planning on going anywhere with anyone acting like an asshat up there; they can find their own group or i will find my own group. for anyone who hasn't been up before, these are some awesome roads but can be VERY unforgiving...there are tons of sick turns but there have still been a lot more little white crosses by the side of the road...NO DRIFITING or wanna be drifting please!!

it IS possible to have fun up there without even speeding, i was planning on a couple little sighting runs at 5-10 mph over, then take it from there accordingly....there is no need to haul ass in the straights, that is what the highway is for, your brakes will thank you at the end of the day anyhow, i'm sure the bikes will be ready to get by on the straights too (let them go, they should be faster than us all). stay away from the lane lines, we are going up there to ride the curves, not straighten them out, and not hit anyone head on (or get any BS tickets for crossing the line)!

if i'm in the wrong group already, someone please let me know ;) , i think we should all be on the same page, nobody wants a ticket and we don't need anyone getting hurt :no:

yup, those mtns. can bite hard...i waited at the top of blood mountain once for a friend who never made it, locked up his back wheel on his bike and slid straight off.

we've got the same idea! I was planning on camping all weekend. Doing the import atl thing on saturday with the bmw or truck and run up to deals gap sunday with the bike. As far as a cookoout, i dont know of anyplace on blood mtn that we could have 10-20 cars on the side of the road safely.Desoto falls campground on 129 has a fairly big parking lot thats free.

How is this Blood mountain compared to the Hiawassee mountains? I personally like Hiawassee if it was only closer to me and with my new suspension set-up I wouldn't mind breaking it in with a few turns.

I couldnt count how many wrecks and fatalities I have personally witnessed up there. I have had friends airlifted off the mtn and had friends die on the mtn. Me personally, i used to treat 129 as a racetrack, dragging knees at triple digit speeds and thinking i was superman. dont get me wrong, i still get some knee down action in and go fast but i also pick when and where to do it. a saturday afternoon with a shitton of traffic is nt the time or place to ride/drive like a hooligan

MAINTAIN YOUR LANE, probably the #1 ticket up there...

Oh yeah heres a few efsquad runs last year. These are mostly of blood mountain but there are a few clips coming from dahlonega and one through suches as well, I was leading through most but you can barely see me sometimes lol. These are to help a little if you dont know the route. Also if the leaves have fallen a good bit then i advise not to run like a raped ape, you will prob slip on the leaves.

Hwy. 60 will probably be a parking lot from Moe's (the right turn towards Wal-Mart) over Crown Mtn. halfway to 400. Helen is going to be a mess too. I don't have much advice, you're in for a treat. I recommend a DVD player or wireless internet lol!

I would advise to go straight at the end of Hwy. 400 instead of left on Hwy. 60 towards Dahlonega. It's 4.6 miles to the next light at Hwy. 52 that also leads to Wal-mart. I wouldn't even go that way but it's better than Hwy. 60 if you insist on getting food in that area.

Personally I would remain straight past 400 which is Long Branch Rd, cross Hwy. 60 then cross Hwy. 52 and keep going until it dead ends at Cavender Creek Rd. Make a left there then a right on Town Creek Church Rd. Left on Frogtown then left at the end on Damascus Church Rd. That will dump you out onto Hwy. 9/19 not far from Turners Corner Cafe...but that's just me.

From that area I can get you to just about any town via dirt roads that is within or borders Chattahooche National Park...Ellijay, Suches, Dahlonega, to Helen...too bad nobody is taking a rally prepped car :tongue:

but for those coming up from atlanta...take 985 north to exit 4, right off the exit and wal-mart is there on your left...the MOG way will also get you there...put the mall to your right of the road, go about a mile, should see wal-mart on the right by golden corral, if you cross 985 you somehow missed it...pay attention, lol.

not sure of the best way to get there from the north east...address for the walmart is 3795 Buford Drive, Buford, GA 30519

i'll be there a little earlier than 10:30, green 2 door BMW with black hood, roof and trunk...will probably be smoking a cig or chowing down on a chicken biscuit, haha...

Ok, been to the mountains for the past few weekends and not going to lie, roads are packed. Best bet is to run the usual 129-180-60-19 loop. 180 was super clear, and IMO, the best road in GA.
