View Full Version : Lowered the rear and lightened the front

Took about 40 pounds off the front and lowered the rear about 1/2" in effort to create a less raked stance. FAIL

You didn't understand what I said, apparently. I didn't say I auto-x'd. You asked why I rode around in a stock LT1 with skinnies, implying I don't drag race... meaning I have them for no reason (drag race = reason for skinnies). I asked if you if you auto-x'd because you had wide wheels on the front (auto-x/handling = reason for wide front wheels). Then I also brought up your motor because usually people race when they mod their motor.
Sorry that was too deep for you.

The options are raise the front or lower the back. The front scrapes, not the back. The third option is to lower it all, if I did so, it'd be very minute.

Let me help you since your to stupid to understand the way you asked something...
1. I'm sorry, did you auto-x your Mach 1 with the wide wheels on the front? 2. Did you race it with the modded motor?
I like the look. I like the way it drives. I saved weight.
1. I am asking why a stock LT1 car has skinnies in the front, and you ask me did I auto-x! Therefore implying that, I did not, so therefore thats why I dont understand you having skinnies in the front. Which are meant more for cars running 11 flat into the 10's! Or for all out drag cars. Neither of which are yours.
2. Again I ask about tires you ask about racing a modded motor? Again I did some spirited driving, but unlike you I have a job and very very rarely had the chance to go to the track. Also my car was not capable of running extremely fast times or totting the front end, therefore I had zero use for skinnies in the front.
Now onto this two digit IQ responce! :goodjob:
You didn't understand what I said, apparently. I didn't say I auto-x'd. 1 . Sorry that was too deep for you.
1. My god did not know now that 13.3 qualified for needing skinnies and street tire combos! Thats some John Force shit right there!
2. When did 17x8 become a "wide wheel"? Hell thats stock size, must mean all factory cars rim sizes are made for the intentions of auto-x'ing!
2a. If wide tires are meant for handling and skinnies are meant for drag racing, you most be very dangerous driving around on the streets if your car lacks alot of handling from the lack of tire/rim size in the front.
3. Refer to 2 at the top! :goodjob:

My regular floor jack is pretty low, especially with the top taken off... and it doesn't have to go far under it. But like I said, the low profile "race" jack barely fits.

LOL. Like you're about to school me.
You asked why I had skinnies, implying I didn't need them or they were useless. I asked you if you auto-x'd because you had wide wheels on the front of your car. I wasn't saying I auto-x'd with my skinnies, I was simply asking if YOU used the wheels YOU had because you implied I didn't.
I have skinnies because it drives better and it lightened my car by a few pounds. I'm trying to get as fast as I can, less weight = faster.
2. Again I ask about tires you ask about racing a modded motor? Again I did some spirited driving, but unlike you I have a job and very very rarely had the chance to go to the track. Also my car was not capable of running extremely fast times or totting the front end, therefore I had zero use for skinnies in the front.
I was comparing how we used our mods. It's not a hard concept to pick up on.
Again, skinnies = lighter and drives better.
Now onto this two digit IQ responce! :goodjob:
Like you can muster anything else besides a single digit IQ response.
1. My god did not know now that 13.3 qualified for needing skinnies and street tire combos! Thats some John Force shit right there!
Lighter = faster. All out racing would be Weld Racing Pro-Stars with MT tires all around. You obviously don't know too much about drag racing if you think my Khumo and Cooper wrapped Summit rims are FUH RACE.
2. When did 17x8 become a "wide wheel"? Hell thats stock size, must mean all factory cars rim sizes are made for the intentions of auto-x'ing!
I thought I remembered your car having 17x9s on the front and 10.5's on the rear.
2a. If wide tires are meant for handling and skinnies are meant for drag racing, you most be very dangerous driving around on the streets if your car lacks alot of handling from the lack of tire/rim size in the front.
I take turns that my car can handle. I don't tail gate. I don't drive like the average mustang driving jackass. My car isn't a complete pig, it will get out of it's way if it has to, but why drive to where I have to push it? I understand there are things I can't control, but MOST stuff you can prevent or avoid.

How do you use a wheel for drag racing? Again you dont tote or run any serious time to need them.
I have skinnies because it drives better and it lightened my car by a few pounds. I'm trying to get as fast as I can, less weight = faster.
Wow less weight = faster? Man I am so glad you said that because I had no idea that you probably saved 30-40lbs which maybe shaved off .03-.04 secs off your time! Man that must have been fluz capacitor time! If you would have just rounded your time up or down at the tenth's of a second you could have saved yourself some money! :goodjob:
I was comparing how we used our mods. It's not a hard concept to pick up on.
You compare in ways of a child with down syndrome...hince why must people cant pick up on what you say! :goodjob:
Again, skinnies = lighter and drives better.
Modifications 099 Lighter = faster, not driving better...
Like you can muster anything else besides a single digit IQ response.
Oh wow great come back...hadnt read something that good, since my post about 10 minutes ago! Bravo goldfish! :goodjob:
Lighter = faster. All out racing would be Weld Racing Pro-Stars with MT tires all around. You obviously don't know too much about drag racing if you think my Khumo and Cooper wrapped Summit rims are FUH RACE.
So you have rims meant for ET streets with crappy cheap tires wrapped around them...therefore defeating the point of needing to save weight with tires that arent meant for traction?
I thought I remembered your car having 17x9s on the front and 10.5's on the rear.
Would have been a typo then...not like I have never made one of those. 17x8 front; 17x10.5 rear.
I take turns that my car can handle. I don't tail gate. I don't drive like the average mustang driving jackass. My car isn't a complete pig, it will get out of it's way if it has to, but why drive to where I have to push it? For the look, I'd say lower the rear...hope you have some relocation brackets to help settle that rear end when you launch. And those Kumho Powerstar 758s won't hold up very well if you start pulling higher trap speeds.
Other than that...keep it clean. Not many LT1s out there anymore...

wow you are the car driving god you figured out that the drag racers and track cars have had it all backwards.
I guess that means all those 4-8 sec cars running 3-5" rims are doing it wrong, and those track cars running 8-10" all the way around are all backwards wow! :lmfao:

The less weight on the front along with skinny tires will cause a horrible handing effect, and also cause the front to wander.
And yes, we did it to the same car. Went from slicks and skinnys, to 20 by 9s, then went to the 17s on it now. Much better.

Here I am going to put the nail in the coffin for your dumbass...
Again, skinnies = lighter and drives better.
I have skinnies because it drives better and it lightened my car by a few pounds. I'm trying to get as fast as I can, less weight = faster.
BTW, skinnies DRIVE better than wide wheels/tires... they don't wonder all over the road.
Driving better = handling!
Now for the final nail....heres from the safety sheet of the Bogart Racing Wheel Website! :goodjob:
What are some safety issues I should be aware of?
All wheels and accessories are for racing only. They are not intended for street, road or highway use. They should not be used on race cars being towed. They are to be used only on track, courses, or strips designated for racing only. They should be used for their intended purpose (i.e. road race wheels for road racing only, drag race wheels for drag racing wheels only, etc.)
Have a nice day Special Ed! :goodjob:

By driving, I meant in a straight line, cruising down the road. I said HANDLING when I meant HANDLING, as in Auto-X, you dumb motherfucker.
And as far as the handling I need, as in drag racing... that is clearly obvious... NOT auto-x'ing. I have no idea where you got the idea I said skinnies are for auto-x. Maybe your lack of comprehension skills. LMAO.

Looks good Evan if anything I would lower the front a little. I think the front should be low enough to get rid of the wheel gap and the back should be just high enough to fit the slicks. The front should always be lower than the back but thats just my opinion. Now get a procharger and call it a day lol.

skinnies look retarded, id ditch them.
Stance wise, welcome to camaros. Thats the way they are supposed to look. I like it id leave it. Id either get the factory optional lip kit, or bigger wheels.
The skinnies in such a front end heavy car is dangerous on the street. You have little to almost no contact patch. Bet it drives like ass in the rain. be careful.
Hell i had to drive my CRX in the rain today and on 205/50/15s it was scary. I cant imagine skinnys in a much much heavier front end car with only 2in of contact on the pavement.
Id ditch them anyway , to me guys that ride on skinnies project this "im a badass fast car" attitude . unless the car can tote the front wheels down the 1/4 or sounds like its running on 3 cylinders, its a little domestic ricer imo.
but hey if you like it...........

They drive 10x better in the rain than the 275/40R17s did. LOL. I guess they cut through water instead of glide over it (I actually had to slow down to about 35mph on I-75 with the last wheels because they were making me involuntarily change lanes in the rain... lol).
As far as traction wise on wet pavement, and not puddles, they're alright. I stay back in traffic, go the speed limit, and drive like I have skinnies and sense. It's worked out so far *knocks on wood*
Like I said, it dropped the weight down considerably and I love the look. I'm not too worried what people think about it, most hate just because it's a Camaro. I grew up around them, to each their own.
I still want your CRX, sir :D

I totally need big n lils with my manual rack goodness. You can has my Zr1's with the red lip!!! 17's should raise you up enough to lower it more.
I dont see how its that low and not scraping everything. It looks like we have the same exaust and mine scrapes on the hwy right now. The rear of my car is lowered but the front isnt. My buddy had to run mufflers on the header in order to not scrape when his car was that low. IDK, maybe the LT1 header's are higher?

your wheels are terribly dated. your car would have been hot shit when it was new if you had that wheel/tire combo. however, it is 2009, and your car is stuck in 1996
lol. You have a car that the body style started in 1996 (the only REAL difference being the front bumper and headlights), with what are those... Rota Subzeros? No, but really, I like your lip from 1999, your blue lug nuts from at least 4 years ago, and your swap that was done back in 1999. My favorite part is your carbon fiber hood, I didn't see that until this year, it must have just came out. I can't forget the "I <3 JDM" tag frame and "JDM" marker lights though.
My Z28 might be "stuck in 1996" with a little function, but your civic is stuck in 1999 AND you're on the JDM nutswinging bandwagon... who is worse?

Do you have longtubes? I only have shorties, but I do scrape on a lot!
New tires on the ZR1s? lol

mmmm that is an old picture (from about 3 yrs ago) the sidemarker are still on the car and so is the tag frame but that is about it. The hood is gone and so are the wheels (those things alone were worth as much as your car) However, my stuck in 1999 civic with a swap done in 1999 is faster than your POS f-body pile of parts from the GM-leftover-cavalier parts bin. Not to mention I can go around turns at more than 15mph and still 30+ mpg. So here it is 2009 and you have 10 years to catch up to my "1999" swap and you still look like a b-team reject.
on a side ZO6 wheels or ZR1 wheels would be a vast improvement over what you have now

What do you run in the 1/4?
Your wheels cost $5k?
I get 25mpg... tunes are nice. I make 3 times your torque and only 5 mpg less ;)
Left over cavalier parts? That's like saying S2ks are left over parts from your piece of shit... they're totally different cars.

lol@u everybody knows GM has corporate (interior) parts several diff. models use. It has been one of there downfalls for quite sometime. there are very few parts that interchange between a civic and s2k w/o major modifications. Now I ran 13.0's (on drag radials) about 2.5 years ago and earlier in the thread it was stated that your car runs 13.3's. Your car probably does make three times the torque of mine, it should the motor is 3x's the displacement, and furthermore big-fuckin-whoop, go pull a trailer then. so you have 3x's the motor only 2x's the weight (being generous) and run .3 slower with sacrificed drivability. and just to make this post on topic if you are so concerned with form over function why are you running cooper fuckin cobras on your "drag setup" wheels?

lol. Sorry, didn't know my black SS leather interior was from a cavalier, I missed that memo.
I ran 13.3 spinning and not even running it out all the way, on radials 13.0 would be easy... I don't even have a motor swap. Shit, it's barely modded...LOL
And if you think it's 2x your car's weight (generously...LOL), you're SORELY mistaken. Unless your car weighs around 1550 pounds

Yup, Longtubes and TSP TD's. The driver side is so low...I think alot of it has to do with the design of their duals is more for hooker/jet hot style but Im running QTP's. I would have to agree that my interior (2001) is from a 1995 Cavalier, but the seating position and seats are so comfy for cruising.
I have new tyres on the back (315 sumy HT's) and decent tread (65% left) on the front. But wait, you dont have radials on the rear?!? I have zero traction with the 315's right now, I assumed you had some radials on there son.

Yea, the longtubes and true duals (if I read that right) are killing your ground clearance. My buddy has hooker longtubes with custom true duals and he has the same problems.
I have just regular tires all around. For extra I have some ET streets though ;) I really don't know if I'd even get rid of the wheels, lol, I do want/need to sell the ET streets... if you know anyone that might be interested.

Yea, but they make such great power and sound together...next year I'll have to go to boom tubes to clear the TA unless I can come up with enough cash for a MWC Fab9. Then I'll get my suspension right on big n lil's.
There's no way I'd trade my setup for yours unless you had some radials on the back though. I'd have to do alot of grinding to make them fit + I'd be downgrading substantially in the tyre department. Right now I drive it everyday, 80 miles on the hwy, so ET streets would be used up in a week or so lol. Guess I just need to pick up some 315 radials for now.
For you and your issue, why not get some 10 spokes. They are cheap 17's and the best looking stock wheel for a 4th gen IMO. I bought my last set with brand new tyres for $400.

Your car setup, with the mods, would be SICK all around.

Totally understandable :goodjob:
To be honest, if I were you, I'd just get some stock 16" wheels and put slicks on them. Keep the streetability of your ZR1's, go to the track, and put on the slicks. No grinding, no going through tires from commuting, etc. Thacker said his car on 315 radials NEVER hooked.

Oh, I love my wheels and setup. I have 6 stock wheels (2 from an LS1 car and 4 from my car stock) when I want to take the "drag wheels" off. I've just always loved the staggered 17x9/11 ZR1s as well.

Prolly true, I had 315 BFG radials that hooked about as good as these sumy's. I was thinking some MT's would do it though. I just sold my 16's, figured they might hook a bit to much for the 10 bolt.

LOL. He started it. When I had a Civic, I never said someone had an outdated car... I mean, I knew I was in the most used and abused, commonly modded (good and bad) POS out there :lmao:

Something to think about. I'd hate to waste money on 315 radials that don't help. Know what I mean.
