Not sure if this should go here or car pics. This seems better as H2B is the best bang for the buck all motor swap. Its high time I put my build thread on here but I just recently started making good progress. Looks like Im going to miss the Oct 18 all motor IFO class race:( as I am lagging behind schedule.

A lil background on the logistics of the swap. I sold my B18B to a member on here (jdm>usdm) and my header and exaust (cant remeber their names) to help fund the project. So thanks to you guys!!!! I also partially traded my Rota RB's for the H22A that will power the car, all in all Im not coming out of pocket to much. I was using a freshly rebuilt gsr tranny with the B18B that will be attached to the H22. Currently searching for a spool and gsr gear set for a spare case I have. I am also making all of the H2B parts and mounts needed:eek: Big $$$ savings there. Hope to run high 12's NA on some 22" slicks (borrowed from a buddy)

Parts list/Money spent:
H22A1 (usdm 96 model 60K miles) - $400
GSR tranny (usdm 15K miles) - have
H2B kit - making it myself - tons of time spent designing this thing
ACT xtreme PP and organic disc - have
Demon RTP/P28 - $375
Kiddracing H22 RMF header - making parts for Mr. Kidd to pay for it - top secret race parts:ninja:
3" exaust with Spintech muffler - $100
Kaizenspeed BSE kit - $115
F20C pulley - need
Timinbelt - $40
Plug wires - $40
New Dizzy - $75
65mm TB - $100
Fuel rail/harness already modded with resistor box - $75
450cc injectors - $40
Traction bars - need but not required

So far thats $1320:goodjob:

On to some pics:

The hatch:gutted, ugly, and beat up. Ive had this thing for ~9 years. Used to be red with a B18C1 - 150 shot when I first built it 9 years ago. This will be the cars 6th hart transplant. (2 B18C1's, D15Z1, D16Z6, B18B) This is its good side

Tonight I'll be pressing in the plugs on the oil pump and girdle. Should be able to get the motor ready to bolt in by this weekend. I work about 50hours a week and drive 45 minutes to work (one way) so weekday stuff is sometimes tough to do.

Im thinking 200 shot, 100 off the line and 100 in second! I'll try to win a race or 2 in the all motor class first though. Im already planning on Skunk2 Pro2's this winter. You also know I like to do things myself, hence the Demon RTP. As much as I wanted to let you tune it, I love tuning the Ls1 and learning the Neptune just seemed like to much fun.

12.3?!? From just bolt-ons? Thats prolly the quickest Ive heard of around here. I assume slicks and gutted? Im running K-sports right now, they should be up for the challenge I hope. I also have a set of skunk2 rear drag launch coils if the Ksports dont do it.

I had a bit of trouble trying to press in the plugs on the girdle last night since I was alone. Gotta get an extra set of hands to help me out tonight. Round+odd shape+no flat surface+flypress+me alone=crooked pressed in pins.

Finally got some time to get back to my project. Petit and Seca made for a busy month.

Got the motor ready to go in the car, new timing belt, gaskets and seals, added drain plug to pan. I had to make some things like the drain plug, stud and 2 pivot pins for the manual tensioner since the guy I bought it from didnt include it. All these little things take up so much time in the long run.

Drain plug:
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i179/jensonkeyes/5fc50a03.jpg

Motor with the Kaizenspeed kit installed and ready to run:
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i179/jensonkeyes/cd975b15.jpg

I also think Im ready to cut my driver side 3 hole mount:
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i179/jensonkeyes/8aa33b98.jpg

This is the 4th different design I have done for it in the past 4 days.
I also finally found some 12x1.25x35 Flat head C'sink bolts and mostly finished my plate. Just have to find a tap now as I have every flavor of 14mm taps except that one. I also made the flywheel spacer, pretty generic so I didnt snap any pics.

That mount, the slave spacer, flywheel bolts, header-mod, and Alt bracket are all I lack.

Yea I welded in the drain plug.

Danny thats classic, although I have no idea why you have the wrong number cuz I swore we talked sometime this summer about that shifter. I'll pm you my number.

No offense, but if my H2B runs a 12.6 on spray, it'd better be on street tyres at 130mph. Thats just slow. I read the winner of the IFO commerce race (All motor class) was an H2B EF, ran 12.2's? Anyone from around here?

Also, I would like to sell a couple kits if anyone is interested. Not Im not going to make 100's of them, nor will I make a huge profit, and you wont see them on ebay. I want to make a small run of a few kits, for local's only. PM me for prices cuz its really cheap!

yeah there was a 1800lb EF hatch making 230whp H2B running 12.2s on 22in slicks. he said he was only shifting at 8000, i couldnt tell if he was shifting to 4th or not.

It was pretty quick.

Yeah 12.6s on spray is garbage

yeah the car is super light it has nothing in it. it's a stock motor with a euro r mani blox b's and a nice header if i had to guess on power i would say 215 or 220

Jenson
10-20-2009, 07:34 PM
Thats pretty light. My car is gutted, but will prolly still tip the scales at 2000lbs.

Yea, my car ran 13.9's with a B18C swap (IHE) and 12.9's with a 75 shot. My goal is to do 12.9's on slicks on the motor. Im sure your buddies car is fast for what it is, I wasnt trying to knock it or say it was slow. More of if my car runs 12.6's itd be slow, but a full weight street car, 12.6's is plenty quick for most people.

I feel I need to address an issue thats come up in PM's. An H2B swap is not a drop in, re-wire a couple things and go swap like a B series swap is.

When you buy an Evo or QSD kit, all that does is allow the motor to mate to the tranny properly and mount into the car in the proper location. Before you can drive the car though or even put the swap in you need to address the balance shaft pulley's, add a new drain plug, do something with the crank pulley, modify a header (or purchase a custom piece) and re-locate the altenator/beat -bang - cut the frame rail.

There are some cheap ways around all of this of course but do require some skill and labor. Now if your wanting a straight drop in H2B swap I can get you everything you need so that the only thing you need to do is re-wire your harness and add a resistor box if your changine to peak and hold injectors. Its kind of pricey compared to a normal QSD kit only because I have to buy the header and modify it.

Thanks for all the compliments, I should have some more progress very soon!!!

I know i know i need to put myself on a diet and not the car :) anyways. looks like u have an amazing skill for fabrication. those parts look absolutely amazing. i especially like the drivers side mount. the only thing i would change if i were u is putting the oil drain plug in the front dirvers side corner of the oil pan. that is the lowest part of the pan and will allow u to get more oil out. if u are gonna sell some of these kits u make, could u pm me a price. we have another car down here that we are thinking of making H2B and lookin for a kit. anyways good luck with the build and hope to see ya at IFO montgomery!!

Thanks for posting nick!!! That really gets my hopes up as my target wheight is 2100. I only weigh 160ish so I should be able to accomplish it. I wanted my drain there since I like to jack the car way the heck up in the air so the angle wont be as bad as on a lift of normal jack stands. And if it doesnt work I'll just pull it off and put it where you said, thanks alot for the info. Maybe I can reach mid 12's with just bolt ons!!!!!!!

the car is COMPLETELY gutted. the only things left are the seat and the steering wheel. it was also a SI so we built a custom plug for the sunroof to go from 38 lbs for the stock sunroof to 9 lbs for the one thats in it now. we also played around with cutting up the doors. we cut everything out inside the door panel brackets and took the crash bar out of the passanger door. there is still glass in it cause i dont think that lexan is much lighter than those windows. thats about all we did. i will say that my car weighed 2180 lbs with both front seats and a full tank of gas. if u have any other questions lemme know.

Tis I, I mean how many JensOns are there? I just found my dyno sheet from 2002 with the 75 shot and first B18 swap lol. It made 218, hopefully I'll get close to that on the motor.

You have to understand the H2B swap, even though it's now on the bottom of the pan it's still higher than it was from the factory or a standard H swap. Anything will hit the front bumper, then x member, then header, and then it'll hit the front of the oil pan anyway. I know what your saying but it doesn't really apply here

BTW you know most all car makers never , ever made a oil pan with the drain plug at the bottom???

never hit a speed bump, rock, tire, some wood thing in the road?

Yeah say by by drain plug and then no oil so by by motor... good luck

This aint his first rodeo

Yeah on my h2b the header is way lower than the bottom of the oil pan by at least an inch and a half. If you hit something that bad, your header is gonna be flat. And my h2b has a lot of angle in the pan now so it won't be too bad, but seriously I would have moved it forward about 1.5 inches further.

Its in!!!! But its coming back out cuz some idiot put the spacer on the wrong side of the pulley:doh: I meant to swap it around before putting it in the car but forgot about it untill I tried bolting up the driver side mount. Back out she'll come, going to move the oil drain:lmfao:, window weld the mounts, and tonight I'll test fit my header since I left it at work this weekend.

Yes they are!!! Do you know which starter is the proper one? I have an Ls and one from a B18C5. I think the one with the teeth slightly covered up is the correct one but the pic on H-T is no longer there. I could search but figured I'd ask you first. My pre-production header doesnt fit at all so Im flying blind a bit on the mods to it today. Hopefully I'll be tuning this thing by the end of the month.

Thanks man!!! Of course thats not the one I put on though...but I pulled the motor back out yesterday anyway. I'll snap a couple pics of the two styles I have just to be certain. Gotta get some window weld in all my mounts too.

Im using the Demon/Neptune RTP and I have an Innovate LM2 to tune with. Im sure I'll eventually get down to mainstream to see how much power it makes but its not one of my list of priorities. My priority is IFO in Commerce!!!! Hopefully I'll be racing and I dont see anything holding me up on that.

Made an educated guess on where to cut the header and tac it up, and it fit rather nicely. Just barely rubs the oil pan at the collector now but everything else is spot on!!!

I saw that oil pan, holy balls that thing is sexy. Adding that to my to buy list later on. So far Im going to spend more money once its rolling than I have getting it driveable. So far Ive got, Liberty Face plating of gears, MFactory LSD, traction bars, MFactory lower ball joints, front and rear LCA's, and now the oil pan. Thats like $2800. Made my two little spacers, so thats good to go. I hope to have some time at some point this week to window weld the motor mounts so saturday I can just wake up and drop it all in. Thanks for all the compliments!!!

Its $400, supposed to be shipping in the begining of march. Baffling is extra and on a customer needs basis. I'm on the pre-order list cuz I think its a great price and they make great stuff. Plus my oil pan is about 2" off the ground with my little 13's.

$400 isn't too out there. What needs to be done about the oil pickup? I mean it will be turned sideways in a flat pan. That is a really convenient pan. Really happy someone decided to make this because I would have to do something about it anyways. The selling point is the correct oil level.

Jenson
02-10-2010, 11:18 AM
I'd think that with the pan being flat and closer to the pickup that it will bring the oil level closer to the pickup than the stock pan. Its my understanding that the bottom of their pan is the same level as the back of the stock pan and they just carried that on a flat plane. I would say that their pan will have less issue with starving the pickup than the stock pan.

Jenson
02-26-2010, 03:44 PM
Small update:
I've officially ordered my pan now, it comes with a pickup tube standard now as well as the hardware and dipstick. My header is done, mounts are done, all parts are done and waiting for me to drop it all in this weekend. All that will be left for next week is fluids and axles. I also ordered some Avid Pro TB's that wont be here in time for IFO and I doubt the oil pan will either.

Anybody got a stock EH2 throttle cable? IDK what mine is but is way to long. Made a bracket based on the H22 one but as you can see from those pics, the end of my cable is about 4-5 inches from where the bracket needs to be. I would have to make a bracket that attached to the opposite side of the manifold...its always something

it's easy to see man esp with some of the things you have made and also with being able to make more mounts. they look clean as hell to. my brother was a machinist in the navy so he learned on all the hands on stuff, no cad etc for making parts on a aircraft carrier. some of the stuff he made by those old machines is crazy as hell too. i have a container that has to be lined up exactly right to open and i have never been able to open the damn thing too!!! g/l on the build i'll check back and see how it runs.

Idk if its going to be running again anytime soon...chasing an electrical gremlin ever since that day it ran fine. Drove it an 1/8th of a mile to get gas and it died when I got back to the house. Ive checked and tested every relay there is, time to start tracing wires I guess. Im about ready to re-wire the whole car at this point

B18c1Turboed

Let me know if u need some help man, i became a wiring guru figuring my car out. I know the manual inside and out now. what exactly is it doing?

Jenson
04-06-2010, 01:08 PM
At first, the fuel pump wouldnt turn off at key on, and the CEL was on with no codes. After letting it idle and run in the garage I went to the station and filled it up, when I got home it just died like the battery was dead. But when I tried to turn it over it turned on the Rad. fan...more on that later. So I put my charger on it on 100A for about 5-10 minutes and keyed on, fuel pump turned off, cranked right up. So I picked up a new battery, cranked her up, it ran for 30 seconds and shutoff again. At key on the main relay sounded like it was going to explode and the fan still came on instead of the starter turning over. So I took the relay and put it on another car, worked perfect.

Next I pulled the H2B harness off, and attached my stock harness at the 6 main plugs, pulled each and every relay out one at a time, moved ground locations in the engine bay, unplugged the dash harness at the fuse panel, put every relay in another car for testing, pulled the dash out to look for obvious burned wiring, put the Ecu on the other car (the CEL turns off like normal and ran the car fine), un-tapped the wiring at the ecu and fanned everything out, and still with my stock harness only plugged in at the 3 plugs on the passenger side (still had the dash in the car with the hazard plug and hvac harness attached) at key on it goes crazy, and the fan tries to start the car. That guy Murphy is my best friend I tell ya. Tonight Im going to pull out the heater core and blower and start the tracing of the wires I guess. To me its got to be somewhere between the Ecu and those 3 plugs. While Im here I might as well make a nice harness and do away with all the crap I dont need...but I need to start driving it cuz the LS1 needs new valve springs asap.

B18c1Turboed
04-06-2010, 01:38 PM
Bypass the main relay and see what the car does then. I bypassed mine and put toggle switch for the fuel pump and ecu. If not 2 wires are touching some where. I would try bypassing the main relay since that controls everything u are having problems with. What engine harness are you using?

Jenson
04-06-2010, 04:25 PM
Just a modded Si harness, bought another one cuz I cut the plugs off mine for vtec on another swap I did. I think some wires are touching in the bundle that goes from the Ecu to the Engine bay...the main relay worked fine on the other car. Bypassing it will confirm that its one of those wires though so I can start with tracing them. Thanks for the input, a fresh brain on the subject always helps.
