Need to go to the tag office with the VIN number and proof of purchase. Make sure that the car can be titled. they will tell you if the car has been titled in Georgia. If it hasn't, then you will need to get the car (don't take it) to your local PD and get them to do an inspection on it. They will do a nationwide search of the VIN number to make sure there are no illegal reasons why it can't be titled. They will then give you a paper saying it's good to go. Go back to tag office and you'll be good to go. Make sure you get insurance also.
First step I'd take it to make sure the car can be titled before you buy it. Later, QD.

I think it's like $100 or something to get a new title. As long as it has a clean title it shouldn't be a problem, maybe a hassle with the state.

I actually called the non emergency police number and they came out my house to run the VIN and sign the paper that needs to be signed. But I waited 3 years and now need to do it again. DOH! I'm still trying to figure out this title biz. I may just pay the 180 bucks and let a company do it all for me. That company is case anyone is interested is Advanco tag and title, down the by airport. They will do everything via mail if you arent close to there.
