No, because nice people like myself have only been to the track once in my life, where I did not hit 12's. I just street race, though I wouldnt mind going to the track. Thing is, I need $1500 for tires and suspension before I go back. I dont have a job, my gf feeds me and pays for my drinking problem, and gives me money to just sit around, but not $1500. So I would have to find a job, which for the past few years, I have just enjoyed sitting around drunk. ive had 11 second cars and 14 second cars. The 14 second cars are generally a lot more fun and less stress haha (less things break).

I honestly think everyone needs to knock their ego down a peg, INCLUDING ME, and try being a little more respectful if someone wants to run. I know a lot of the drama from this week could have been solved with a lot less shit talk and a lot more details.

I don't think this forum should be password protected. The KF has been the "12 second and faster club" as long as I can remember.

In today's world, economy cars and SUVs are running 14 seconds anymore. For a section dedicated to racing, mostly by either sports cars and/or cars modified to be fast in a straight line, it just seems kinda ridiculous when someone considers their vehicle something that is meant for "racing" when they can only run a 15 second quarter mile.

This right here is what you run into EVERYWHERE you go. At some point, people are going to want to create a somewhat "exclusive" group. This is an unavoidable thing. You see it in car clubs, social clubs, online gaming, etc. It's nice to have a wide range of involvement for a hobby, and it can work......but it only works when everyone knows where they belong in the line. I don't have a problem with 14 and 15 second cars necessarily.....they can run, post threads, post up videos, etc. What is ANNOYING, is when those fuckers try to call out the cars that make twice as much horsepower.....but want them to handicap their car in one way or another. These are the situations that cause drama for several reasons. For one, you have varying opinions on how "legit" the callout is. Secondly, for the faster car.....the whole situation is pretty much a waste. The faster car can either waste his gas to meet up with someone he's 2 seconds faster than, or that same guy can waste his gas by going and doing some fucked up race (unhooking NOS, changing boost settings, coming on tires they don't race on, etc). It's one thing if you're at a meet and a buddy wants to race just for fun with some silly circumstances, but to actually be CALLED OUT under these circumstances is just simply annoying far more often than it is appealing.

The nature of this hobby, if you are the least bit competitive at all, is to beat the faster vehicle. Because of that, the faster cars are the ones who are getting frustrated, because they don't want to be bothered by the slower guys. The slower guys have NOTHING to lose, so they often times don't think there's a "problem" with the callouts.

Thing is, once you know what your car is capable of (you can even get an idea before you race) you need to find your place and stay there. If people would just stop bothering others that are out of their league, then I think everyone would be happier.

If everyone already "knows their place", then there really wouldn't be any racing at all, unless it was against perfectly even-matched cars, all boiling down to driver skill. Since that's what we're trying to measure anyway when you get a "good race" (against evenly matched cars), why is it so wrong to handicap some cars just to make the racing a little closer? For most, calling out a C6Z on bald-ass street tires versus a large turbo civic hatch on slicks is an obvious and understood admission that the C6Z is indeed the faster car. It is just that since the Civic driver wants to get a "good race" (close finish), he will request some handicaps in an attempt to get the race closer. If you don't agree with that type of racing, then decline it. If the Civic driver commences to shit-talking, thats when the ban-stick comes out. I was under the impression that this was the normal order, and I fail to see any problem with it?

Oh, I agree that this is the internet and that anything can be found out about anyone at any time. However, if this subforum would like to keep an influx of interesting and new members into the mix, then I do not see how pw protecting it is going to help this. I think the trade-offs of being an exclusive forum, in order to weed out slower car will be somewhat of an inhibition to new members.

When I meet people in person, I never have issues. I typically don't have issues posting on the forums either b/c I check my EGO. Of course, EGO is a big part of the street racing culture, so guys like me will always be the exception. The drama and all that doesn't bother me. One thing that does bother me is the amount of shit being talked on 13-14s cars. It's a lot harder to get a stock honda that ran 16s off the showroom floor into the 13s than it is to buy a c6 and run 12s off the showroom floor. Who deserves more respect from the so called motor heads? Which guy is justified in having the ego? The guy that just happened to make enough money to buy an expensive car, but can't tell you a thing about degreeing cams or the guy who knows his motor inside and out b/c he had to work hard to get every last bit of HP out of it? I don't care how much money someone spent on a car, you can't buy knowledge & experience.

Consider the concept of built vs. bought. The douchebags that turn their noses up at a 13/14s honda are typically the ones that paid someone else to build their car. I know a lot of guys that have really fast 400-500hp cars, that BUILT their own cars that still have respect for the work that goes into making a honda motor make power.

So yeah, the guys sporting the huge egos driving fast cars that they know nothing about make me laugh. They brag about how fast their car is when really they had very little to do with how fast the car is. I have a lot more respect for the BUILT 13/14s hondas than I do for the bought C6s.

Really, there's no way to know unless he's got passes on slicks & street tires to compare. Some setups hook better on street tires than others. Some drivers can't extract the full potential of their slicks. Does he have slips to compare streets vs. slicks?

Sometimes the outcome is surprising. Once, I ran my car on 225/50/15 tires at the track and ran slower than I did on my 195/60/15 tires. The 225 tires were a stickier compound, wider, on lighter wheels, etc. So why did I run slower? The rules of thumb aren't absolutes. The only way to ever KNOW something is to have done it for yourself.

When I spoke of respect, I wasn't talking about street cred. I was talking about the fact that a car guy is a car guy whether he's building 9s cars or 15s cars and a douchebag is a douchebag whether he's driving a 9s car or a 15s car.

As far as 14s cars calling out faster cars, what's wrong with it? Why would someone get offended, especially if money is being offered to make it worth the person's time/money? There's no reason at all to get bent out of shape over that IMO. How does it make a person a ricer? It just means that they're willing to run and trying to make it worth the other person's time & money.

I see people making handicap races all the time. A roll race can be a handicap race if it's an AWD car vs. a RWD or FWD car. People frequently give up an advantage or two to run another car. Running off the bottle, running on low boost, running on street tires, starting in a higher gear, etc. 99% of the time, no one gets offended. They either do the run or they don't. It's only here on the KF that I see people making a big deal out of it.

Anyhow, getting bent out of shape over being called out by a slower car is more indicative of believing that the amount of respect you deserve as a human being is somehow tied to your vehicle. A challenge from a slower car should not be an affront to your personal dignity. Period.

Norotor, maybe I should have changed the statement to low 10's and 9's. I don't know many people with 8 second cars, but 9's aren't all too uncommon anymore. I can think of 3 people off the top of my head that I know personally, and who either post on this site and/or show up to meets a lot, that are in the 9 or low 10 second area. This doesn't include the people that ARE out at meets, that I don't even know. And Btstone is the ONLY guy I know that even cares to call these guys out. Norotor, maybe I should have changed the statement to low 10's and 9's. I don't know many people with 8 second cars, but 9's aren't all too uncommon anymore. I can think of 3 people off the top of my head that I know personally, and who either post on this site and/or show up to meets a lot, that are in the 9 or low 10 second area. This doesn't include the people that ARE out at meets, that I don't even know. And Btstone is the ONLY guy I know that even cares to call these guys out. I just personally haven't SEEN the interest in trying to gimp out a 1 - 2 second faster car so it'll run with someone's 11 or 12 second car.

I agree with you about the money thing. But I think it's funny that people in this thread are pointing the finger at people with more expensive cars. If you think about it, who do you think would have more pride in their car.....the guy who bought his from the dealership, or the guy who has been underneath his turning a wrench to it for the last 2 years to get it running the way he wants to? It makes sense that the person with more personal time and effort put into their car has more to "lose" in a race than the guy who just put down some money and has less knowledge of his own vehicle. In that sense, I think it's actually the slower guys who have more of a problem connecting their ego to their vehicle than the guys with more expensive cars.

well, its a long story, but the main cause of most all the problems have been the transmission. no one makes a really good tranny for it. i broke 3 diff PPG trannys. i have a dog box in it now that is holding for the current moment. there are only a handful of s2ks making the power i do. and only 2 that are faster, so it just kind of comes with thte territory. its gonna get the bugs worked out all the way here real soon

Regarding the quote in bold, sure, no one has openly stated that, but it's insinuated in every post supporting the idea that somehow a slower car is unfit to run a faster car or that asking for a handicapped race is somehow an affront to a person's dignity. That happens all the time. Take boxing for instance. Why do fighters in higher weight classes drop weight to fight someone in a lower weight class? By your logic, the heavier, and presumably stronger, fighter should never give up his strength advantage to answer a challenge from a lighter fighter.

I have raced Civics, Integras, Evos, S2000's, a 280Z, and other cars that were a lot less expensive than me with much smaller motors....and some of them beat me! But none of the cars required me to do something to make my car slower.

I have my own set of stipulations when I run someone...but it's not because I'm a snob or disrespect someone for what they drive, but I do this for FUN so I choose to race within parameters that make the race enjoyable. My car performs best between the speeds of 60 and 160mph, so I don't want to do a 20mph roll, regardless of what kinda car it is. I've also come to the conclusion that it's a waste of time to race someone with a very low gear ratio, because the two of us will never be able to line up with both of us in our sweet spot. Again, has nothing to do with snobbery.....it just takes a certain setup to be a good fun run for me. I don't like having to run well outside of my performance envelope, and I don't try to make someone run within mine if it will be well outside theirs.

The classic definition of a ricer is someone that spends way more money on looking fast than being fast. Period. I'm not the one trying to stretch the definition. Doing burnouts in a heavily occupied parking lot doesn't make someone a ricer, it makes them a dumbass. They may be a ricer on top of that, but they might just be a dumbass in a really clean 10s car.

All I'm saying is that the simple act of asking for a handicap does not make someone a ricer. The reason why I mention bracket racing, PAX in autocross, and professional fighters is to show precedent. The fighters may not enjoy dropping weight, but the simple act of challenging a heavier fighter to drop weight is not frowned upon in any way. It doesn't make the lighter weight fighter a punk or anything of the sort. It's up to the fighters to determine if it's worth it to meet the terms of the challenge or not.

I'm not making any sort of an us vs. them situation. I'm expressing my thoughts. I met you the same night you ran Bucky in his hatch and I had no problems with anyone. In general, I don't do drama. Mike handled the situation very differently than I would have, but I can see where he's coming from. I'm not saying that because other people started ragging on him that it's ok for him to behave likewise. What I am saying is, "what the hell did you expect?" Alright, so maybe I jumped the gun on the ricer accusation. While what has happened during this conversation doesn't fall under the actual definition of being a ricer.....a person who will make ricey additions to their car will typically follow a certain type of mentality. So in this situation, the TYPE of retardation that is happening is what I file under the ricer mentality. My friends I hang out with, and I am not talking about the guys here on IA, feel the same way. We just always classify idiots that try to downplay their car and/or make it a big point to act like they've accomplished so much in modifying their car in a way that it's faster than a car with a bigger motor, regardless of the modifications done on both sides, as ricers. I mean, back when my car was stock and it was beating stock Vipers, I never acted like "AW HAIL!! Dodge needs a dayum V10, and my little 'ol motor with 2 less cylinders whoops it ass!!!"

I don't AGREE with Vteckidd's callout, but that's not actually what pissed me off. It was the multitude of posts where he was downplaying his car, and playing dumb like he didn't know the MASSIVE defecit he was asking for. If you know ANYTHING about racing, at all, then you know that traction is more important than horsepower. So with Vteckidd....one of two things is going on here. There are no "rules" for it. However, you should be smart enough to know your own involvement. Unless you are doing this for competition for one reason or another (street rep, money, organized competition, etc), then a lot of things don't matter. Winning or losing isn't as important, as having FUN is the most important thing. So it's up to each individual what rules they play by for it to be fun. With that being said, the general rule (if that's what you wanna call it) for street racing is "run what you brung." So in general, people don't ask for handicaps when it's just for fun. If you think you are a good race for somebody, then race them....don't make them re-configure their car so they can be as slow as you are.

It's very much like golf. If you've ever played, you know some people are VERY serious about the game. They pull up grass for every single shot, wait for the wind to be in the right direction, use fancy range finding equipment, get all frustrated when they screw up a shot, etc. When people play for fun, they take mulligans, use tap ins, don't count certain strokes, etc. So when guys are just out to drink some beer and have a good time, having some uptight Tiger Woods wannabe in the group is a big downer. It's very similar in street racing. These "hardcore" guys or ricers just ruin the whole mood for people who are trying to be social and enjoy themselves.

So there isn't a list of black and white rules carved in stone anywhere, but it's VERY easy to identify if someone has the same take on racing as you do. I personally have the most fun when I don't know the outcome of a race (win or lose) before it happens, so in that sense I'm rather picky about who I run as I want us BOTH to be around the same level of performance. I'm more picky than I used to be, as I've raced TONS of people and have a very good idea of my car's capabilities, as well as other cars with certain modifications.

What I have found, more often than not, is the people who are either more serious about racing and ricers won't respect someone's wishes for not racing. So when I hear the same 'ol shit about "oh, you're afraid of this little Honda???" or some other stupid shit like blaming the fact that a person is a friend of Thacker as the reason they don't race, it does piss me off. Maybe I'm just jaded, because this hobby usually has me around people much younger, dumber, and more immature than me and it frustrates the hell out of me.

Alright, so maybe I jumped the gun on the ricer accusation. While what has happened during this conversation doesn't fall under the actual definition of being a ricer.....a person who will make ricey additions to their car will typically follow a certain type of mentality. So in this situation, the TYPE of retardation that is happening is what I file under the ricer mentality. My friends I hang out with, and I am not talking about the guys here on IA, feel the same way. We just always classify idiots that try to downplay their car and/or make it a big point to act like they've accomplished so much in modifying their car in a way that it's faster than a car with a bigger motor, regardless of the modifications done on both sides, as ricers. I mean, back when my car was stock and it was beating stock Vipers, I never acted like "AW HAIL!! Dodge needs a dayum V10, and my little 'ol motor with 2 less cylinders whoops it ass!!!"

I don't AGREE with Vteckidd's callout, but that's not actually what pissed me off. It was the multitude of posts where he was downplaying his car, and playing dumb like he didn't know the MASSIVE defecit he was asking for. If you know ANYTHING about racing, at all, then you know that traction is more important than horsepower. So with Vteckidd....one of two things is going on here. He's either purposely trying to play dumb in an attempt to get Smacked to come on shitty tires that won't hook so he can beat him, OR he's really just absolutely fucking retarded. Either of those scenarios would make me not like him.

Well, we agree more than we disagree. We have some difference of opinion on whether handicaps are really acceptable to request or not. I think there's no harm in asking for them, as long as it could still make for a fair race. Mike was probably being a little antagonistic in tone because he had already been called a ricer at that point. However, I don't think he was aware of how big a hit on performance running on street tires would be for smacked.

Mike figured his car ran at best 14s at commerce on drag radials, the SAME NIGHT that a new 100% stock mustang GT was running 14s on street tires. Since smacked has a good bit more HP than a stock mustang GT, you'd figure a good race with the advantage to Smacked. Certainly, smacked's car shouldn't be slower than a mustang GT on factory tires; it should be a good bit quicker. Correct me if I'm wrong on that. That's where I think Mike was coming from. I really don't think he considered it to be a massive deficit based on what he saw other v8 domestics running that night on street tires. I've known Mike for awhile now, and he's not the type to bait someone into a run that the person has no shot at winning. Mike honestly thought smacked still had a more than fair shot at winning even on street tires. If you guys really thought he was proposing an un-winnable race, there were probably better ways to communicate back and forth on the issue than what actually transpired; that goes for you guys AND Mike. However, it's in the past now; Aaron and Mike agreed to terms and they'll run sometime during the week.

I really hope there's no hard feelings on either side of the table here. Let them do the runs, see how things pan out, and put this one in the books, or youtube if they're both willing to be video taped. :goodjob:
