I have an OBD1 H22a in my 1997 civic and i am in desperate need of help on replacing my timing belt. The main questions i have is, do i have to put #1 piston at TDC or anything like that and considering my belt is so stretched out when i lock the cams down am i going to have to move the cams a little bit one way or the other and if i have to, how much do i do it and which way do i need to go. The last question i have is how does the tensioner work on the engines? Is there a way to lock it down or something? I have bought timing belt, balance belt, water pump, and new valve cover gasket. Is there anything else i will need? Please reply to this ASAP. I am going to tear into it tommorrow morning. Also would it just be easier for me to pull the motor then do it considering there is barely any room what so ever to move around on the timing belt side. Thanks for looking.

let us know if you need someone to do it 678-363-6789.... And you need to put the motor on tdc of cyl 1, you will have to manuver the cams to take the slack out etc,etc and no its not easier to pull the motor, you have plenty of room to work with there, I have done many in ek chassis.

wow i would really try to find somebody that has done this before to help you out,you will need to find TDC before you take the belt off so when you put it back on the timing will be correct/

i have replaced timing belts before, its just you know how everything has its on little qwerks. I have one more question, does the timing gears have any marks, and if so where should the marks be if the engine is at TDC?

the cam gears both have two marks on them each. the marks are going to be directly opposite of each other. you need to line the marks up with the top of the head. and for the bottom end to set top dead center, there will be a lil white mark/line on the crank gear line it up with the arrow on the block. the arrow will be right above the crank gear. any questions pm me.

and if you dont have that stopper for the tensioner, just do what i did.. once you collapse it with a screwdriver just wrap that bit in some electrical tape, put it on and cut the tape off..
