If you had the choice of a Mustang or a SHO, which would you choose and why? Let's just say it it would have to center around reliability, comfort and power. Stockish.

A SHO would be much better for business IMO. Esp if you guys could be one of the first to do it. Mustang = been done -0238429843 times which = not so good for putting your name out there imo.

It's not for the business. It's for a MAYBE tv thing and it would be stock and I might have to give it back.

I think the SHO has the engine that the UK Jaguar has. If it does, the gentleman from Top Gear (Jeremy?) Got 700 miles out of the tank. It was equipped with a V-6 Twin turbo. I don't think they have that many designs.

At the end of the day, if you are driving a SHO - you are still driving a Taurus.

Yeah, every car in that competition was a diesel and none had anywhere near the power of the SHO. When searching for cars, they didn't even look at gas powered, it was a given that they'd never make that distance in anything but a diesel.

I don't want a sedan anytime soon, but I would easily choose the SHO over the Mustang, the new Mustang is just hideous while the previous body style was perfect.

Ha ha! A TT Taurus.

But it's still a Taurus - and it looks like a regular Taurus. Unless someone really knows cars, they will think you are driving a $25K Taurus.

Here's some food for thought.
A SHO starts at $37K. To fully load it with the premium package, which includes the steering package, you need to add on another $5700. That means you will have about $43K in a car that will be mistaken for a $25K car.
A GT500 has 500hp compared to the SHO at 365. It costs $46K. Personally, I would spend $3K more and get the GT500. Even with having a shop, it will cost you more than $3K to drag out an additional 135hp.
Another item to consider - do you want to be the guinea pig for the new SHO? Usually, first year cars have the most issues (for any manufacturer), and the risk of it having issues/recalls are higher than the GT500.

I think the SHO is nice definitely, however, I would rather take the Mustang. I prefer most coupes over sedans, and this is a situation in which that rings true again. Moreoever, comfort, family convenience, quietness and other shit like that ranks fairly low in my consideration.

i hate both, but if i had to choose mustang

Although I can sincerely appreciate them Bringing the SHO Taurus back to life. I realistically would not pick it over a mustang simply because it's a big american sedan (something that does not appeal to me).

Although mustangs aren't my first choice in cars, i'd be able to get more out of it.

I say mustang because it's cheaper and RWD. Those reasons may not factor into what you are thinking about but that's why. But I do think that the SHO is effin sweet. The engine is damn powerful and will probably be pretty impressive once the aftermarket starts making engine parts. You know what....I change my mind lol. SHO gets my vote.

09-17-2009, 08:26 PM
It may be true that Mustangs are played out but soon enough SHO enthusiasts from the 90s would probably be all over this car plus the people who like big sedans so pretty soon SHOs be played out too.
And to my knowledge, the Mustang aftermarket is much bigger than that of the SHO, so with tasteful modding you can make a Mustang "yours."
I realize the OP said "stockish" but I'm just throwing it out there for the ones who said Mustangs are overdone.

Because that's what the new SHO's have now, standard equipment.

Whoa whoa whoa. best motor for gas mileage, yeah. But lets not forget about the YAMAHA motors that were in the original SHOS from 89-95! (The 96-99 V8s sucked). The 220Hp DOHC 3.0L (or 3.2L) V6 was a beast.

I'm blown away by both of them...but for a car for me to own, I get a stick-shift with the Mustang and that V-8 burble.

Ford did really well with the Taurus SHO though.

The old SHO had one of the best looking engine bays ever though. Same can't be said about the new one...hahaha.

Id choose the Mustang, but im partial. The SHO barely outperformed the G37S.(stock for stock) The Mustang pulled a .92G on the Skidpad, pretty solid if you ask me.

SHO vs Chrysler 300C, SHO vs Audi A6... theres been tons of comparisons on the new SHO that are giving it an edge over its opponents. Hell, youtube is full of em. Its impressive for what it is. There will always be those people that say "its still a ford taurus".. you know... the people that dont appreciate a car for what it does, they only judge it by what it is. Thats not a real car ehtusiast.

I look foward to seeing what changes they bring in 2012.

Theres a 2010 SHO running 12's in youtube right now, stock. (with minor tweaks here and there)

Yeah, but for all the extra power in the SS, it's still almost 3900 lbs. The Mustang is almost 300 lbs lighter and still performs reasonably well against the Camaro. Car and Driver had a pretty good write up between the Challenger, Mustang, and Camaro back in July. Yes the Camaro does out perform it in a straight line, but i'd take a track pack GT over a SS any day.

All that aside, I would chose the SHO over the Mustang, but that's cause i'm a sucker for forced induction. Not to mention that with a good tune, that car would get real fun real quick.
