I know there "should" be a difference in the gearing BUT does anyone know FOR SURE if the auto GSR transmission is different than a US automatic transmission? I have read tons of articles saying that the only difference is in the shift points programed in the ECU/TCM.. And then other articles saying they are different all together..

dude i looked for 4 hours and couldnt find anything on the gear ratios for a auto jdm gsr tranny! i learned so much about the s80/y80 manual trannys but nothing about the auto except the usdm ones. i hope someone can come up with something

Errr...tried to look them up today, but I need the part numbers for the mission. So back to the service manuals to get those numbers and then back to the research.

I know the USDM auto LS OBD1 mission is a 20021-P78-___, but still need to look up the others to confirm.

Yeah, that is the part number for the ECU. I have a couple of those at my house as well as a couple B16 autos too. The problem is that I need the mission assembly part numbers. The auto LS part number for OBD2b is 20021-PGA-A10. I know the 20021 prefix is for automatic transmissions. Just as the 20011- prefix is for manual transmissions. 37820 is the prefix for ecus., etc.

So I searched through the 20021 prefixes and um yeah....there are over 2000 combos...lol. So I am going to continue searching for the middle number identifying the GSR/B16. I have confirmed the AUTO LS gear tooth count already.

I didn't forget about this. In the process of moving. I have the drawings and part numbers and can confirm that there are in fact differences between the SI-V and SIRG models. I have confirmed though that there are many instances when the LS gearing is in the SIRG line up (same part nos). I am still working on it, but have tooth counts, etc. Many different configurations to go through and my Japanese sucks..lol

from what most forums say the GSR and LS is pretty much the same, it would be pointless to do. but i put a b16 in after my ls blew and it was alot stronger! but no worries anymore 5 speed tranny FTMFW!

I had problems with level 10 in the past with a 3rd gen RX7... Might go that route but really don't want 2..

ive had both and the auto gsr tranny really comes alive with a auto ecu some say its the same but i def felt the difference go figure. i have a custom ls ecu now with my level 10 so it shifts completely different depending on the throttle postion
