I see it as a more of drag engine then a track car engine. B Series is light and easy to maintain vs the H motor is more pain.

ha what do you mean more pain?

in the past month i've tuned at least 6 if not more. plenty of people do them, but b-series tend to be more popular b/c they are already in many of the cars stock and some people don't feel like dealing with the extra effort that swapping in a h seems to be.

because b and d are in way more cars than h every will was.

Money n h series requires more modifications

B-Series
Cheap swap for good power
Easy "plug and play" swap
Parts are cheaper

H-Series
A little bit more expensive
Requires some modifications
Heavier motor put more weight up front(+150-200lbs.)
More fuel? lol

We're currently doing a H-Series Integra and it does need a little more love then a B.

So you are saying that an H22 weighs 200lbs more that a B16? LOL

another thing to take into consideration; Fiber reinforced cylinder walls tend to wear quicker resulting in higher maintenence costs (rings, etc) or more modification costs ( replacing oem sleeves with aftermarket units). :goodjob:

Edited look it up:goodjob: a bit cheaper then the B's expectially if u compare to the B18c5, which is closer in range for power, not B16's which aren't even close........... But fuel mileage sucks!!!!

yeah a h series is like a v8 it drinks the gas alot quicker!

Drink more gas? I understand a bigger engine needs more fuel, however it may be that the H required premium fuel whereas the D and B require regular. Even though people say you can use regular 87 unleaded in the H, I always used Premium. Just can't beat that torque straight from stock. B16C5's are still going for $2400 to $4000 today. You can get a H22 for under a grand at JHOT I know.

my friend went to jail and sold me his h22a for 325 bucks and i did a full oem rebuild and it was a total of around a grand, if you look around you can find what you need, but whats gonna get you is getting it put in the car, like wire harness obdo to obd1 harness, mounts radiator, shifter box and traction bar and alternator relocator and hydro to cable, that round up to a lot, ive spend around 3 grand on the motor plus getting it put in the car.

ANy thing can run regular b to d.... Just results vary. I ran regular (87) on my boosted d series. and it was making 2XX. :ninja: But that in yo pipe and smoke it. :)

Yes "anything" can run regular (cept diesel motors ;)), but that doesn't mean you should. I think the biggest issue with the h series swap is the shifter assembly. Going from hydraulic to cable isn't very hard but it is more work than a b series. Overall it is not a hard swap but requires a little more work, it really just comes down to what you plan on doing or wanting out of the car.

Around 160tq... I think 164?

But yea I ran reg. in my first GSR for like three months, it never did anything but I had no idea, it was my first honda and I didn't know it had that much compression.... If it don't knock or ping, and ur not beating on it. Not that big of a deal though :goodjob:..................

what would you say is the best motor to go NA with?

h22 jones
09-05-2009, 03:05 AM
Im one of the six h22 motors scottie has tunned in the last month and it put down 231-171 and i just checked my gas mileage 34.5 miles to the gallon. Ill be glad to give you the numbers the hatch started with and finished and how many miles i went for proff if anybody wants it. In my opion h22 is defenently the way to go for all motor its just cheap horse power to me but like it has already been stated it takes a little more to do the swap its not as easy as a bolt in plug up process like b series. as for frm sleeves wearing out come on ive got ten blocks at the shop with over 200,00 miles that are perfect and they actualy run cooler and less friction the only down fall is you cant run forged pistons in them. If your going all motor you can buy some type s pistons shave the head a little and get all the compression you want with out even having to buy high compression pistons. With a h23 crank and type s pistons the piston sticks out the block twenty thousand already so no need for high compression pistons unless your building a all out drag motor. All the obd1 blocks are closed deck blocks actualy great for boost but stock h22 pistons have weak ring glands so you have to run another piston for boost which means you have to sleeve the block and thats why alot off people prefer b series over h series because they come with steal sleeves but they have a moly piston now thats great for boost that works in the frm stock sleeves of a h22 . There are plenty of people making weal over 500 horse power with a stock h22 block with just pistons and rods. I went through all this b series h series with all my friends 8 years ago and one put a supper chargered gsr in a hatch the other put a turboed b16 in a hatch and i put a stock h22 in a hatch they all 3 run mid 13s and i had half the money in mine with no power adder hope this helps.

ive got a jdm h22a in my civic and i love it. regardless of the cost, its worth it. it should have been a stock motor in the civics. as far as gas mileage ive got a 10 gal tank and get about 200 to 230 mi. a tank, with some performance upgrades

so H series are more powerful to sum it up?

Big_Joe

I go with H-series. But at the same time all depends what car you are putting it into. To put a H in an accord its simple..

h22 jones, i want your setup haha, what was your price list when getting all that, cause all i have on my h22 ef is skunk 2 cam gears haha, lets build my h haha

500 horse power on a stock bottom end with pistons and rods and a nice size turbo not all motor just wanted to make sure you wasnt confused. Ill give you my parts list i just sold my accord well gave it to my sister so i guess im going to build me a hatch now so i can play with my dad at the track but it is a very inexspensive build . The most cost is in the cams ,springs, and retainers. I had a f20b head laying around which comes with types springs so i just used them they been working fine for years with the skunk2 stage 2 cams . You figure cams gonna be around 500 and you can get types pistons shipped to the door for 200 thats the main cost .

Sir_Christopher
09-05-2009, 01:03 PM
hell yea!, im gonna get the cams, what crank did you use? cause im building mine for all motor, and i want it done right
