94 B18b transmission. I have it off the block and want to perhaps fix a little problem i have but i dont want to order wrong part, so here is whats going on, you tell me what you think it is.

The problem is centered around 4th gear:
if im in third and go into 4th either quickly/ or high RPM's it grinds a little, same applies if im in fith and drop quickly into 4th it grinds. Does that sound like synchro or gear, i was leaning more towards synchro, what do you think??

i would say synchro but im not a trans person by any means.

Difficult to say. How many miles are on it? Do you have a service manual? Make sure to check the clearances on the syncro ring. When that starts to wear down, your dog teeth will start to wear/grind. Also, many of those parts are not sold seperately.

its most likely the worn brass synchro ring...Only way to tell is to disassemble and observe wear.

well, whatever it is, im not cracking it open, ill try a lot of shit but i dont think i want to messy with tranny internals. Well, either way, it sounds like i need to have to have a professional actually look at it, i just wanted to go ahead and order the parts

If you need someone to get fix the tranny for you, or order parts lmk. Imo it sounds like the brass synchro, simply because its not a grind at any speed, like a worn sleeve would do.

its just the ring that needs replaced, but its hard to say that nothing else needs replacing.. might want to take to someone that knows what to look for and check it all out and is in specs, best of luck but if you never done this I would not do it unless you could afford to fix if you damage anything or lose parts
