So in the .01 percent of WL threads that are not completely stupid, I'm actually also being serious for a change. I'm curious as to everyones thoughts on swine flu? Anyone know anyone who has had it? Anyone overly worried about it? Anyone plan on getting the vaccine?
It seemed for a while it was being blown out of proportion, and as of right now it hasn't hit the toll where I'm not going outside. But they are saying it could double the death rate of the regular flu, and many people the age of most IA users are most likely to contract it. It has appeared most cases are mild, and require no treatment, but some seem to bring out underlying conditions or kill those with underlying conditions.
So just to see what other people are thinking. Taking extra precautions or not even thinking about it?

My boss has it right now. I'm really not worried as swine flu has been blown the fuck out of proportion. If I get it, it will suck, life goes on.

The news hypes things up, an estimated 90k dead from it isn't high enough to worry me. Millions, sure. They say if it stays the way it is that number won't even be reached. I know someone who had it, they got better, as almost everyone else around has. Fuck no I am not getting their lab shit vaccine.
There are new deadly flu's every single year. This one is just more widespread and known, hell it COULD not even do what they think.
It's all fake anyway, it's a scam to stimulate the economy in the medical field. I am investing in all the vaccines and meds right now, they jumped 25% a couple days ago, BE SCARED PEOPLE YOU ARE ALL GOING TO DIE BUY LOTS OF MEDS!!!!

I will probably get my daughter vaccinated once the vaccine is available simply because she is under the age of 1.

Thats good. If you really noticed the people that died so far all had weak immunity system, like old people and babies.

I'm not suprised so many people know someone who had it.
I think my little cousin had it when we were visiting Pittsburgh, but he wasn't ever diagnosed. Alot of people are saying some are not diagnosed since they never go to the Dr.

My girl friend is currently in the hospital in ATL. She has cystic fibrosis and they think she might contracted swine flu. Just waiting on test results to come back to find out.

you do realize that A) the cdc isn't even sure the "vaccine" will have any effect on the "swine flu" and B) they are predicting to only have something like 30% of the original promised vaccines ready by the time they are needed? you better get in line now with the other people who are scared shitless.
swine flu is such bs, i talked to a rn and pa today and both told me to tell my son to wash his hands multiple times per day and to sneeze into the inside of his elbow. they also said that just because he sneezes, farts, or sniffles doesn't mean he has swine flu....

I'll keep her in my thoughts and prayers man.
This flu is just so weird because the symptoms are often mild and just seems like a common cold. But the person thinking they just have a cold could give it to someone who can't get that sick with the swine flu. Kinda scary since there isn't one distinguishing factor to make swine flu the first diagnosis.

I'm not scared shitless of this; however, if the vaccine is proven effective, and there is something that I can do to protect my daughter from contracting swine flu, then I will absolutely have her vaccinated. I have her vaccinated against all the other diseases including the regular seasonal flu. My daughter is under the age of 1, so she can't necessarily prevent herself from such exposure. It's my responsibility.

the more medication she takes the weaker her immune system gets... so she will just get sick more often.... i never take pills or any medicaton... i just let my immune system fight it off and i can't really say that i've been really sick

It's easy, wash your hands, avoid sick people. If you get symptoms, go to the doctor, and stay home.
From what I hear though swine flu usually you have a fever, throwing up, and tired, if I just get a cough and stuff I won't sweat it one bit, even throwing up and fever doesn't mean you have it, it's not the only disease now lol.
lol @ streetspeed, I am waiting for one of your off the wall dumb ass conspiracies on this one.

There is a huge difference between an adult and an infant though. We could argue about the pros and cons of having children vaccinated all day long. My choice is to protect my daughter via vaccinations. ;)

Vaccinations =/= medication.
Vaccinations make your immune system stronger. They give your body adaptive immunity to an antigen without having to deal with infection. Of course, because she has been vaccinated doesn't mean she will be home free since viruses can mutate fairly easily (which is why many people get a yearly flu shot).

If you want to believe that fine, but it's 2009, there would be a MUCH smarter way of doing that if they wanted to.

I don't think it's a huge deal like most people think. It's no worse than the flu, actually more people die from the regular flu verse the swine.
