View Full Version : The fastest Mitsubishi on the planet

From Galantvr4.org:
Raver / Cochran Racing sets the record with a 224.044 average. They improved their time with their new over bore engine from last year. They went 218 and set the G/PS record at 216mph. This was al accomplished on the short(2 mile) course at speedweek this weekend. I am not sure if they are going to keep racing, but they took off early last year after setting the record. Speedweek runs through saturday.
Hopefully my friend can challenge the record they set last year in G/PS. He is still shaking the car down and working on the tune on the fly out there. He went 190mph in his talon on saturday and 188 yesterday during a test pass. He went 201 last year, so hopefully he can push through and grab a nice time.
This is now officially the fastest mitsubishi on the planet. Surpassing Mike Reichen's Evo II.

That's pretty fast for a Mitsubishi.

Whats with the mirrors and spoiler? That that off and they'll hit 220 right there! (ok not really but thats a LOT of drag at that speed)

The class they are in requires that you can do no body modification like add or remove parts. The only thing you could add is safety equipment. It's the fastest 2.0 sedan out there and its shaped like a box. Gives you an idea of the power, gearing, and thought that went into it.

Oh and btw, they averaged 224.XX. That's more than 220. ;)

Actually if you look at the pics on the salt flats the mirrors appear to be off.

The original drag coefficient is 0.34. That at 224+ is a shit load of power. Very impressive.
Here are some other objects for reference ->
0.9 a typical bicycle plus cyclist
0.4 rough sphere (Re = 106)
0.1 smooth sphere (Re = 106)
0.001 laminar flat plate parallel to the flow (Re = 106)
0.005 turbulent flat plate parallel to the flow (Re = 106)
0.25 upper echelon of production cars (e.g., Toyota Prius[13])
(I know the 2010 mazda3, with the furia body lines, is at 0.29)
0.295 bullet (not ogive, at subsonic velocity)
1.0–1.3 man (upright position)
1.28 flat plate perpendicular to flow
1.0–1.1 skier
1.0–1.3 wires and cables
1.1-1.3 ski jumper[13]
1.3–1.5 Empire State Building
1.8–2.0 Eiffel Tower
2.1 a smooth brick
>2.5 spacecraft in LEO
