I've never set a thermostat in my house before, so I was wondering what everyone else suggests.
My roommates boyfriend put it in the low 60s and i'm in thick plaid pants, in a jacket, socks, and i'm still freezing under the covers.
What does everyone else set the temp at?

73º AFTER 8pm to about 6 am and then we shut it off during the day. We're either out or man up and use fans.

your power bill will be REDICULOUS.
I keep mine at 77 all day. Last month my power bill was $260
Keep fans on, invest in them, they are like $20-30 at walmart

well, i'm in the dorm. i just turned it up to 72. gradually turning it up, because i don't want him to come and bitch at it.
if we go over our allotment (or whatever it's called), we are the ones going to be billed. not him. and it's pissing me & my other roommate off.
we have our fans on and stuff, but this shit is ridiculous with him. i'm going to a RA about it if he turns the A/C down again.

does he live there? if not tell him to SHUT THE FUCK UP. Its not his house.
Id keep it at 72-75.
I have a 2 story townhome with dual climate controls so it gets a little expensive for me TDS. I also have 3 50in LCD and Plasmas that are on almost 24 hours a day, along with my computer so i wonder if that has something to do with it.....

Mine's nearly as high as yours, Mike, but I have a two-story, eight room house to cool/power.
Trick, you're continuing your stupid streak if you let your power bill be determined by someone that doesn't even live there. Either blow him to compromise for the extra money being paid out or tell him to shut the fuck up. Later, QD.

yeah im kinda wondering why mine is so high, i really dont use a lot of power unless the TVs really do consume that much. I find that hard to believe but who knows

yeah, we are coming up with roommate contracts next week. if he turns that shit down again, i'm gonna tell him to go to his own house.
the temp is at 73 now. and it feels good. so i guess that's okay. i might turn it up 1 or 2 more degrees. my other roommate is black and she said she has no problem speaking her mind to him. i already said if my bill next month is higher, he's gonna pay it.

Ah yes the infamous roommate Temp. battle. Two of my roommates liked it at 60 at night and my other roommate and I were not having that especially when it was on my side. It was set at 72 on middle ground. Whats funny is though your letting someone that is not even living there determine the temp. We had a flat housing rate to pay at the end so it wouldn't matter how low or high it is.
Don't let some guy intimidate you just because it's four girls. If you have to go get your RA. GL

Ours NEVER goes below 78.... never. Ceiling fans and blinds work wonders! I stay home during the day, and it is very comfortable. Thank goodness for well insulated homes I guess?

might be your water heater tank. Since its hot weather season you prolly don't need scortching hot water. Another thing might be yoru windows. If they are single pane they are def not energy efficient. Also check the insulation level in your attic. Many ppl I know have come to find out they were missing 6+ inches of that shredded insulation for it to be up to par with building standards. :2cents:
