LOL...you HAVE TO STOP. It's a RED LIGHT, you're just allowed to turn after stopping. It's not a yield sign.

:headslap: I'm pretty sure that was on the written part of my driving exam that I had to pass to get my license.

You should. Just so you know if you're turning from a one way onto a one way street you can also turn left on a red light.

Only if marked. Then it's illegal in all states. Later, QD.

I've had to inform several people of this in the past few months. Same as being able to legally make a left turn onto a one way street if it's red, as long as you stop first.

What if there is a right turn lane and a yield sign at a traffic light, do you still have to abide by the traffic signal or does the yield sign override that? Or is the yield sign only there for when the signal is green and you have incoming traffic making a left turn?

Unless there is a keep moving sign I still always come to a complete stop, even with a yield sign if the signal is red. I've always been curious if I didn't have to stop if there is a yield sign...

Only if the street you are turning from is also a one-way street can you do this.

The stop light overrides the YIELD sign. Yield is mainly for oncoming traffic when they have a green light and can make a left turn to your right turn.

If you're not sure, it is always best/recommended to go ahead and stop.

Something else not a lot of people realize is if you approach a right turn that has an actual traffic light with arrows in it, you have to abide by those arrows and their color. Even if there is no NO RIGHT TURN ON RED sign and the right turn arrow is red, you can NOT make that turn.

I know that in Jersey, it's a law not to do it, at all.

lol...I always get so pissed when people come to a complete stop when it's clear too. I'll admit I didn't realize that either :)

Yeah, anything red you need to come to a complete stop. Then, if the turning lane has a red arrow or light specifically for it, then you are not allowed to make the turn until it is green. A lot of times they have a "no turn on red" sign, but not always.

One road that has the red arrows, but nobody pays attention them is Mansell Rd getting off 400 north. You are clearly suppose to stop and wait for green, but everyone goes through it...including me :bump:

No sir. All 50 states allow right on red (after stopping first, of course), unless noted. Later, QD.
