GADSM’s Import Showdown is scheduled for Sunday September 27, 2009 at Silver Dollar Raceway in Reynolds Georgia.

This event is open to every car and bike, import or domestic. It is an event put on by enthusiasts, for enthusiasts and has classes that will accommodate all types of set ups with races that range between our all motor class (usually high 12’s to low 13’s) to the competitive Showdown class (usually <10’s) as well as plenty of test and tune time in between.

Competition rules have been modified this year, we heard your wants and hopefully answered them. It is the racers responsibility to read the rules prior to entering their class as there have been changes and assumptions made in the past. Specifically we have changed to tire restrictions and it should now compliment the racers and the tech inspects.

We have modified the staging area to be more accessible to the racers during the competition. Test and Tune will see much more time with the staging lanes being open during down time in the competition. Tech inspection will be near the staging lanes elimination much of the congestion from previous events. We are avidly working on streamlining the traffic, tech inspections, maximizing the amount of time that racers can spend going down the track.

For more information about the event, visit www.importshowdown.com (http://www.importshowdown.com/)

Pre-registration opens September 1st .

We have brought back the modified street class after many people voiced there opinion that they wanted this class to remain. Also, the drag radial tire issue has ben addressed and the new rule is for STAMPED DOT APPROVED. Slicks are as always approved for Showdown class and drag radials are A-OK for All Motor :goodjob:

Now bring yo asses out!

modified street is the hottest class nationwide (it mimicks the majority of sport compact built race cars out there)

Great Move.

Just means more competition in the Modified Street class.

how, modified street requires full exhaust. maybe you mean more competition in Showdown..haha. poor jenson.

DarKStaR
08-18-2009, 08:59 PM
Not by their site it doesnt

Modified/Street
Single Power Adder
Tire Limits: FWD: Full Slicks, AWD and RWD: DOT Approved (must have stamp)
Front half of interior, single seat ok
Exhaust must exit behind front wheels
Fuel Cells must be 8 gals or more
Engine/Transmission swaps to those of a different mfg than the body is allowed. However, engine and transmission must be a mfg pair or it must be the original transmission with the mode vehicle. Example: Nissan RB26 with Nissan transmission in a Mazda body is ok, Nissan motor, GM tranny in Mazda not allowed.
Transmission swaps to out of mfg transmission is not allowed without coordinated engine swap.

its a qwik fix.

I was looking at the all motor class for the camaro, the civic has zero interior but both cars have dumped exaust before the rear axle.

It'd be quicker to add nitrous and run in the mod/street class but I already have huge traction issues. I may need to check IFO rules again to see if theirs is the same way since the civic would be bumped to the showdown class here  If so Im gonna need more than my 22" slicks

dsmwookie
08-19-2009, 10:59 AM
We adjusted the rules from last year Stiryfry.

We brought the Modified Street class back due to large popularity. We do want to establish a difference between MS/FWD/AWD/RWD/SD

Some of the Showdown guys may compete in MS and SD, if you are that good and can win more power to you. The goal is to provide a popular class MS which fits a rather large majority. Secondly SD was modified to allow a little more breathing room I.E. tires, wheelie bars, single piece front end, and restricted tubing.

We didnt have enough response and turn out for a hybrid class. I like the class and it could possibly return if we get enough requests and turn outs. Best way to make that happen is have a bunch of hybrids show for test and tune to state your case. We get a decent turn out of hybrids, we will put it back up for a vote :goodjob: And no.....were not talking Prius' and Insite's here. :taun:

Just a reminder, there are cash payouts for winners of the clases :D While GADSM is not for profit and we cant guarentee that set amount, we flip all extra funds made after covering expenses to reward the winners of the race clases. This means,THE MORE PEOPLE WHO ATTEND, THE HIGHER THE PRIZE WINNINGS! So if your racing you would be wise to bring your friends, family, x-girlfriend or boyfriend, homeless people, anyone who will attand this event will benifit our race winners!! We want a huge turnout so we can get this event bigger and bigger every year and expand on it!!

Don't worry about the rain. They have a nice little moto-cross track, so if anything we can do some rallycross.:D

On a side note, why do you guys always want to take I-75? Unless you're coming from south or west of Macon it's an additional 40-something miles. Take 41 down to Roberta, then hang a right on GA128. The ride is really smooth, there are ZERO cops, and virtually no traffic south of Griffin. Plus, it's a whole lot less nerve racking not having to worry about some idiot crashing into you on the interstate.

Yep Mike. It was 60% chance up here yesterday, and no rain. 40% today, no rain. Hopefully it holds off, both for the Showdown and for my baseball.

If we dont have baseball Sunday we will probably be coming down to showdown (me and Taryn), but if I have baseball its playoffs so I have to be there.

Thanks for comming out everyone!! I think the weather did scare a good number of people away. I havent heard attendance numbers yet, but there in the 600 range. Spring had 800 and we were gunning for more, but recent weather really affected people this time around I think. It's of course comming back in the spring and we want way more people and more participation in the event. A lot of cash was given out and not even to the fastest car in each class won the event, so there really isnt an excuse to not run in one of the classes if your car qualifies :D

Guys I had a good time if you did not meet me I was the guy in the staging lanes flagging you in most of the day. I do apologize about the turn out but some people stayed at home scared of the rain. The event day was beautiful just low turn out.

We had a ton of people doing Test and Tune that could of competed and won cash but chose not too. Hopefully they learn their lesson and begin to enter. We will be doing another IS in Spring and will hopefully have better weather. Keep it in the back of your mind April or May will be the next IS and we should have the date up in a couple weeks.

The photos will be up within a day or two. Keep in mind she takes 1,000-2,000 photos at an event and clears out the poor quality ones.

If any shops that were attending this event would be interested in sponsoring shoot me an email address. A booth, internet, and tshirt space is just 100$. For just shirt and a spot on the site it is 50$.

I would like to give special thanks for 4GPerformance. They ponied up 200$ extra for the Showdown competition just so we can try and draw faster cars.

If you have any feedback on the event please feel free to email me [email protected]

Planning is already in the works for the spring event.

I would like CONSTRUCTIVE ideas or suggestions for the spring event. We can't guarantee changes but we will consider and hash them out in our planning sessions. The weather was the major downfall here. We are always trying to bring this event up in the eyes of our customers and sponsors.

That's been a problem for years. It's the track's fault not the group that hosts it. You can barely hear the announcer if you're anywhere past the 1000 ft mark.

I'm glad to see that the rules for Showdown has been updated, now maybe the payout will increase for first place or Top ET. The money is a issue getting any cars that run is the low 9's and 8's atleast for me. I sure wanted to bring out the blue rx3 and give the Showdown class a few beatings but maybe next time. Some folks that have dyno queens need to either take a break or turn down the power and learn the track. Its getting old that the same car is breaking at every event. How do you help sponsor an event but you break before the race gets good. :blah:

Breaking is a part of dialing in a car. Just because your car may have less issues DOES NOT GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO TALK SHIT TO ANOTHER RACER!! It takes a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to build a decent track car. Sometimes turning down the power has nothing to due w/ a car breaking. A car is a machine w/ a million and one parts that can break no matter how much power is driven through it.

Seriously dude, every professional racecar I know of go through motors and transmissions every couple of races if not every pass b/c of wear and tear issues. So when a sportsman runs a car w/ the SAME amount of hp as a PRO racecar you can't bash them for having some issues. If the person is having the SAME issue every time they go to the track then fine make jokes or comments but other than that-I THINK YOU'RE OUT OF LINE!!

If the person is having the SAME issue every time they go to the track then fine make jokes or comments but other than that-I THINK YOU'RE OUT OF LINE!!

good point, some people don't understand it until they get to that point then they know exactly why, how, and how much$.

I've done nothing but try and support you. You know why the rules changed??? BECAUSE OF ME! I wanted you to be able to participate in the race because I knew the previous rules wouldn't allow it. Because I try to be your friend! And this is the type of stuff you say...

Since when do I "sponsor" an event? I'm a member of Gadsm and they host the event. So I try to support them and get people to come out and have a good time. I don't even understand how you can not appreciate my attempt to try and pull the community together.

I wouldn't even bother w/ whomever he/she is!! I admire your commitment and dedication through the trials and tribulations. 99% of the people including myself would have gotten out of it a long time ago if they went through some of the problems you've had. I remember you paying a big name PRO RACER a huge amount of $$ to build you a motor and when you got it and installed it, the motor popped soon after. That in itself would have drove me insane. I remember you telling me the story w/ no hate for the person and you took it as a learning experience and started building YOUR own motors. You're at the end of the learning curve. How many people can say they've ran multiple 9 second passes?? Why stop now or even respond to someone like this? You've on the upward slope of success!! I commend you!! Seriously. I had a boss/friend build my motor and it popped the next day. Since then I bowed out of the drag car game. I'll be back one day but again IT DIDN'T STOP YOU, B18C1TurboedEK, SPOOLIN, & many others!! Keep at it-you've proved everybody wrong!

I have several time slips to watch you eat if you never had them before. I'm glad to see you know your history idiot. Now if you know racing ie real life not Play Station games everyone knows you don't put 100%hp on a fresh track with out learning the track... If you don't know who I am sit in the stands and watch or come be my track bitch:2cents:. You may learn something about preparation and setup.

As for being a hater I don't freaking care if you break at every track day. Thats free entertainment for me. If you can't take constructive comments or wearing your feelings on your sleeve you will never improve or learn. It takes you 11years to run one 9 pass. :blah: sell that dyno queen.

Why not hate on someone for just being born....they can't help it.

Did you not get a trophy for your 9 second pass or what? Why are you so bitter?

So much hostility over what should just be a fun sport.

Your comments are not constructive. I've not been trying to hit a 9 for 11 years. You've been in the game the same amount of time as me. Yes I've had the same car for 9 of those years but the goal has not been the same. I've had several 9 second passes and my car was at the track for nearly every event in the southeast this year so far. How's that make me the dyno queen? My car hasn't been on the dyno since last winter. I'm tired of arguing with you dude. This makes no sense. I don't have to justify my self to you nor have I ever asked you to do so. I still remember trying to talk you into buying your RX3 a couple years ago. I hope you run a 7 and prove to the whole world you got the fastest import in GA. As long as it makes you happy. That's what its all about.

Since you "know your history" so well.

People can and have said what ever they wanted to about me. I know my car beaks a lot. Its a fucking DSM, what else would you expect. I didn't hand pick a purpose built drag car 9 years ago. Mr. DSMRookie,
The reason is
1. I'm in the US ARMY protecting your freedom & way of life.
2. You spend more money on trofies then gifts and MONEY.
3. The rules for showdown just changed.
4. Your payout for the top class is like childs play.
- it takes money to bring money 500bucks don't pay for
gass or food for a fast teams.

Since you got all the question/answers. Tell me why we are the only state that don't have but a few fast import cars.? I will tell you Not enough Track or Dyno days, not enough import shops, No race Seminars And until the tracks prep the track and take import serious all your going to get is street cars.

A statement I agree with. We don't have enough.
But that doesn't stop me from doing it. By hosting events like Import showdown, we are trying to promote faster better races and imports. The more people that show up, the better the payouts are. Don't forget that the GADSM and the Import showdown group are a non-profit organization. They do not make money off the race. It all goes back to the winnings. all the people that work the event are volunteers, none of them get paid. Tell me how that's not at least trying to make the Import scene better here in GA?

Seven,

So you joined the ARMY out of your own choice yet you blame GAstroker for something he has no control over? You bash an event because its not good enough for you? The event has never been about the money. The event is meant for enthusiasts and the cash prizes are an added bonus. Last I checked Mike doesn't have a "team" so why are you up on his nutts? He at least made it there.

For your questions I dunno man why haven't you opened a shop and trained everyone?

I will add that I appreciate what the men and women of our country do for us. This does not mean we are proud of your actions right here as a citizen.

the amount of competitive sport compacts in GA are lower than other places that have the races, IFO is kind enough to COME BACK this fall to try again from the rain out so we need to show them what we can bring to the events closer to home, if no one shows up then you know why the sport compact scene in GA sucks, because to many soft people. Yes we have more quick cars than AL, MS, SC, but florida is huge and they have a whole 4 race series all to them selves called the NSCRA which may go regional next year plus battle of the imports and a couple of IFO races.

Yeah - I ran you back in 05 --- red EF hatch w/ a 100 shot of gas from a roll. (we ran in Riverdale somewhere). I stepped out from the kick (for a whole lot shorter than I thought I would - LOL) until the 7 made boost and then proceeded to get raped down Clark Howell or 85 N towards 139. I can't remem the road. After the pull I called you on your phone to say that your tailpipe was on fire - then you revved real quick and said "how about now" -- then I said "ok - it's out" - LOL. Good times.

I remem this, bc we set the run up in the Publix lot - exchanged numbers, and rolled out to the spot. As SOON as we got to Old Nat the road was bocked w/ cops (we thought it was for us) and we all broke up... turns out that there was an accident or something the cops were working.

That 7 was def quick back then. Good to see ya back on the boards. Seemed to be a pretty kool dude. As far as racing goes... when it stops being fun for ya then it's prob best to hang it up. That's directed at EVERY1 in the scene who can't relax and keep the egos parked in the garage. ;)

^^ Rods and pistons EF (same car - different heart)... gt30r. No plate right now - but it's only been tuned just over a month. Nothing special - and nothing to talk shit about really circa 400whp... wrong-wheel drive. In all honestly I may let it go and do something different. I don't have the desire for a track-only car but I may get the bug over the winter to put something simple together. This shit goes in up-down phases for me... Mike will get his shit together eventually. I have been where he is and was running a lot slower while doing it. You keep finding the weak links and upgrade. If he wants to RACE and not just tnt like me, he should turn the power down so he can go rounds and work on that 60'. He could get more et out of just the 60' than he could by adding 300hp on the last half of the track. I will say this.....he has the balls to keep showing up....he breaks but he is out there trying to work out his combo. You gotta give props to him for that vs some of the keyboard racers out there. Nobody likes the embarrassment of breaking but it happens when you lean on it and he's leaning on it.

the 60 ft is what I've been fighting with. That's why the driveshaft broke at the launch. Like you say, I was leaning on it hard. I'm on the "waiting list" for an upgraded transfer case that will accept a larger diameter yoke. That's my last major weak link.
*fingers crossed*
But you're damn right, I go to the track whenever I can...its called seat time and learning my car. That's how you get faster and more consistant...just as you were saying.

Yeah. I give him a freakn A for effort. I just want the guy to listen to the ones who have been there and know. Turn that shit don't a get a damn pass in. Learn your surroundings before cranking it up. Many times I'm sure he didn't need to go max boost for the win. People remember your last failure longer than your first accomplishment.
He know if my ass wasn't so damn busy my car would be at the big payouts also.

I've had several successful 9 second passes this season. I just came back from a big race in Ohio where I had 3 9's in a row and nothing broke. (probably weakened then driveshaft). Luck would just have it that my shit broke at this race. I was trying to improve my 60' and the driveshaft disagreed with me. You have to keep pushing if you want to get faster.

Yea I think almost every time I have been to Reynolds I've seen your (gastroker) car out there running. I have yet to see it make a good pass but I always anticipate it cause the car looks and sounds sick. Usually sounds like it's breaking up pretty bad. What's been the problem with it? I and a few of my friends have always wondered. We're out there rootin for ya though.

It took me AWHILE to accept I needed to turn mine down to get mine sorted out. Here is what did it for me...I would do an online HP calculator (no comments on the accuracy) after a night at the track. The MPH might indicate I made 800hp but the ET indicated I only got 700 to the ground. I didnt need to make more power....just use what I already had. Once I left the power alone and worked on the suspension and tune for the first 330' things came together. The last time I went to the track was a friday night at SDR and then 2 days later to steele. My runs went like this and in this order
9.86 9psi
9.83 9psi with shock adjustment
9.66 12 psi
9.64 12 psi and shock adjustment
9.50 14psi and shock adjustment
9.44 14psi and tune adjustment
9.39 14.5psi
My friends can tell you how long I spent at 9 and 12psi until it ran the numbers it was supposed to. Once it did and I upped the boost the ets did exactly what they should. Now the hp calculators only show a 4hp difference between MPH hp indicated vs ET hp used. Thats thinkin with ur dipstick Jimmy.

Mr.Incontt
So what times are you running now? Thats nice numbers for low boosts, That car reminds me of the show on speed channel PINKS. The ws6 against the honda kid.. It was a damn ass spanking I didn't want to see ever again. Never did they put a real import with a V8.

I havent run since then. That was September 12th i think. Im missing 2-3 mph on the back half of the track so thats my main concern ...figuring that out. We will see if the larger turbine housing helps next weekend. The spool has slowed but I reached my goal of a 9.3x at 15psi or less so its all just educational now. I may not ever go faster than a 9.3x....I can live with that....I get nervous after 140mph....I can not handle the mph that Mike runs.

I've not had any breaking up issues this year. Not sure what u were hearing.it hits the rev limit in first gear sometimes

Incontt u make a good point. I was starting to play with my suspension just recently to help with the 60'. I think I stiffened it too much in the rear which shocked the driveline too much. The intent was to keep more weight on the front tires to reduce spinning but the biproduct was shocktreatment to the rear.

Mr. t2ku
Please take it easy on the tune question... We wouldn't want to start a new convo on EFI 101 or setup 101. The break up was maybe the nos bouncing the revs pass its limit before shifts.:goodjob:
When you talk about someones tune it like callin them out....lol
Its all constructive bro be easy

On a awd setup I got NO advice to offer...no idea what might work. An auto would be so much better on parts and the 60' but I dont think thats an option for you
