View Full Version : Battery keeps dying - won't hold charge

Hello,

I purchased a Duralast Gold battery, desperate measures when OEM is dead, from autozone not too long ago and when I left on a 2 week vacation I came home to realize that my TRUNK was opened just enough to leave the light on (lifts are dead :dunno:).

So the battery went down the crapper and I jump started it and let it charge.

Worked fine for a few weeks. Sold my V2 bumper and didn't drive the car for about three days. Wouldn't start. If I leave the car alone for a day or so it will not start and I have to jump start it everytime.

I took it back to autozone for the "3 year warranty". The guy did the test and said my alternator is fine and the battery is charging fine. I asked him if he could charge it fully anyway, he refused (probably saw the difficulty of the install). Said it's something else and go see a technician for it (of course).

I'm getting rather frustrated and checked everywhere for anything that could possibly be draining it. Nothing is on. It's at the a shop right now and I just got a call back that the battery is once again dead and it's only been 2 days since he last turned it on.

So my options are:

-Take it to a different autozone
-Buy a optima battery anyway cause i'm getting a sound system soon (moderate power)
-Take it to a shop to see what's draining

And if it helps anymore, that morning that I left my car alone for three days. NOTHING turned on. It was COMPLETELY dead. As soon as I clamped the battery the siren went haywire.

I left it on for awhile and let it charge. Does fine for a day but if you leave it alone then it's a goner.

Open to suggestions and advice

alarms only uses .001 volt so this isnt true......Never had one issue with alarm causing a battery to die...Most alarms now use LEDS which takes hardly any volts to power them..Unless the alarm keeps going off, but you will know because it will light everything headlights etc door locks..what ever its hooked into the alarm, horn etc.

sounds like you had something fuked up....

how long you think .01volt could drain a battery that is 12+ volts?

Most cars has 30+ modules that run more then .02 volts-.05 volts and don't drain a battery down.... even your car has these same modules. If the alarm keeps setting off and will not stop nor turn off then I could see this. Or if its grounded out due to stupid installed

Have u checkd a fuse? I had the same problem in my car. I had the alternator checkd wile the car was on and it faild. I took off the alternator and had it checkd as well as the battery and both passd. So i put everything bak and the car ran for a day then died the nxt. It turnd out 2 b the fuse for the alternator stopping it from charging the battery. Might be the same with urs since it dies after a period of time

Its not a fuse. It doesnt die when he's driving it, it only dies when it sits. I've been through the fuse thing several times. Auto-bone is a joke store.

Guarantee there is either a draw or the batt is junk. Probably a junk battery. I would go back to the store, and tell them, the battery STILL doesn't work. I want it waranteed. I had to do that myself. They will eventually give in when they realize that the customer is right. They get PISSED too Lol
