Mr. Les Paul
It was a big week for classic rock news, although not all of the rock headlines were happy ones. The rock 'n' roll world sadly lost a major icon this week, when Les Paul--legendary guitarist and inventor of both the solid-body electric guitar and the concept of "multi-tracking" in the recording studio--passed away from pneumonia at age 94. Les's contributions to rock music were immeasurable, and so it was not surprising that guitarists of all genres and generations immediately paid tribute to the man upon hearing this deflating news.
