path with the pen tool. also using a wacom pen.

pen tool ftw.
but those pics are full of lose. you need a pic where it doesn't look like the wheels on the other side are missing.

Using a tablet has naught to do with it, especially if you're converting a path to a selection.
ls-r, you just need to practice, man.... learn how to adjust the feathering and anti-aliasing

sry this is a late reply, but i was referring to the OP. i mean i understand that it's not worth you faking the appearance of a wheel. so he needs better pics.
