Can someone (briefly) explain to me what this movie is about? I got into a 2 hr debate about it earlier, and I'm still confused.

Sarah Palin runs for President in 2012, ends up winning, mass suicides everywhere. Kinda like "The Happening".

The title refers to the end-date of the current (13th) b'ak'tun of the Long Count calendar, used by the Mayan Meso-American civilization. In their creation myth, we live in the fourth "attempt" at creating the world, while the third attempt was dismissed as a failure after its own 13th b'ak'tun. Though Mayan documents contain no such information, popular culture and certain religions predict an apocalyptic event at this date. It is popularly misunderstood that the calendar "ends" on this date, however the Long Count calendar can express dates from approximately 3000BC (their date for the creation of the current world) to approximately 40 octillion years in the future. It is almost impossible to express this date in a mortally comprehensible fashion.

Factual errors so far: In the trailer an aircraft carrier is seen being tossed in a tidal wave. When the craft turns over on the deck you can see USS JOHN F. KENNEDY. The USS JOHN F. KENNEDY has been De-commissioned, also there is no text reading USS JOHN F. KENNEDY on the flight deck.

Looks like an overall bad ass movie. I didn't care for the "day after tomorrow" but the graphics were good. I am assuming this one will be much better visually and hopefully in the story line. I didn't care for T.D.A.T.'s story line.

just a stab in the dark, but i think it might have something to do with the end of time.

there is a lot shit going around that the world will end in 2012. if you read Revelations out of the bible, and can understand it, in a way says the world will end due to plates of the earth's crust shifting, or earthquakes.

I'm with you on that. The one disaster scenario I stated earlier about Planet X (Nibiru) could cause similar destruction if it came very close to the Earth though. Thats the only justification I could find for water cresting the Himalayas. :???:

yea it kinda was, but apparently when time does come to an end. the earthquakes are severe enough to nothing we have seen before, killing everyone. so i can understand the dropping of buildings and things like that. but i don't know about an endless crack in the earth. at least from what i remember seeing in the trailer.

Absolutely they do. The best NASA can do about the "end of the world" is rule out a few scenarios out of a countless numbers of possibilities.

Ill check that link. But it isnt out there with Planet X is it? Cause NASA swears Planet X is an internet lie.

edit- interesting link. ill try and look into it more when my brain is fresh.

Good catch.

Reminds me of the Transformers 3 "Get me USS Kidd...they have a rail-gun!"

USS Kidd = DDG 100....definitely doesn't have a rail-gun. lol

Transformers 3 shows DDG 88 as the 'USS Kidd'...DDG 88 is the USS Prebble.

I'll never understand the reason for the inauthenticity when it comes to the military movie references. *shrugs*

My opinion of this movie? I think it looks WAAAAAAAAAYYYYY too over-the-top Hollywood for me to enjoy, let alone believe.

It's like taking the "What if..." concept and multiplying it by 1,000,000

2. I recall myself saying the movie was still pretty good.

3. I understand that it hasnt happend yet but the whole california dies except for one family??

4. How the fuck is a tool and hoses going to stop a multi-ton gate from closing???

5. I think it should be more of a sad type ending than a heroic ending.

6. Why dont u shut your dick sucker unless you want to say it to my face. I did say IN MY OPINION!!!

it was ok. The movie progresses slow and since I didn't get emotionally attatched to the characters I didn't get caught up in the dramatic moments...I personally wouldn't have minded if they made everyone die. It seems like hollywood doesn't like to end movies where the bad guy, or in this case nature, wins.

Yeah yeah, but did you honestly expect it to be good? Seems like one of those movies where you smoke a bowl before going in, and shut off your brain for the entire show. It's one thing to blow a movie outta proportion then come due-date and the shit fucking blows!

I was expecting - not realism, but a good entertaining movie. The main characters should've at least died along with everyone else.

I was expecting everyone to die as well...the fact that people lived after what should've been the end of the world only solidified the movie's mediocre-at-best rating, imo.

I think some of you movie-goers are still under the impression that Hollywood movies have always been and still portray REAL scenes rather than exaggerated.

IMO what would be the point of a movie if EVERYTHING is exactly how it is in the real world, such as a Limo NOT being able to run away from cracking Earth, or an Air Tool (or whatever) blocking the gears that opens the huge gate? We all know these things most likely can not be done so what would be the point in watching it on film unless it was exaggerated to certain degree for entertainment purposes.

That is what you watch movies for right ?
