I was heading to go get some dinner and saw a UFO turn at an intersection up the street and had to go inspect. To my surprise, I found this....and it's HUGE (and kinda boring looking).

edit, so in a way, its being designed off the older 911's with a newer front end.

When you say the front end is a little different....why would it be a lot different?

The 911, Boxster, Cayman, and Cayenne all have similar front ends.

As do all BMWs, Mercedes Benz, and Audi cars. The cars have to look similar so people know instantly who makes the car. They go through a "design language phase" which lasts a couple of years. Most all European brands do this.

Why would Porsche want you looking at a Panamera and not be instantly able to recognize who makes it?

The Panamera has more relation to a 928 than a 911. A Porsche 911 makes it obvious the engine is in the back and is styled accordingly.

The main styling piece that has drawn criticism on the Panamera has been the line starting from the B pillar and moving back. That line doesn't mock a 911 in any way.

the front end of the 2 cars are almost identical. there are just minor touches that set the 2 apart from each other. the headlight design is different along with the hood. its just the minor details.

I think there are Audi R8 and TT levels of differences.

I think there are Audi R8 and TT levels of differences.the front bumpers are similar with the plastic shit in one, i don't know what its called. i couldn't find a pic of the panamera front like that, only the side angle of the front so it made it seem like the both cars had round headlights which is why i said it looked like it had projectors. and the already stated hood is diff.

it seems its taken the basic porche concept designs of their cars and mixed it with other european automaker to come up with the design of this car. i read somewhere the car was originally designed off the 928 with the older 911 styling.

as far as the front end is concerned, i see some carrera gt influence in the headlights, and 911 influence in the bumper, particularly the grille and fogs.

the rear end.... yuck.

I think the joke is on Porsche on this one. Porsche hired Michael Mauer in 2004 from GM to lead their design team. He was Saab's design chief and coordinated designs on Opel and Vauxhall and was with DaimlerChrysler AG for 14 years prior to that.

Mercedes has created some of the most beautiful and fastest sedans ever built. It's a quick car but I don't see the style present in the Panamera. The front is great but the rear is barely typical Porsche. Making it a wagon using the Cayenne rear would have looked better or even going with the 911/997 rear...even with it not having the engine in the back. Interior is supposed to be phenomenal and supposedly the turbo is the quickest sedan around the ring now but the rear still needs be revised.

But hey, I'm not in the market for it so my opinion doesn't matter right lol!

Aside from the back, the car has everything going for it. It brings serious competition to the S-Class and 7 Series. IMO, the interior beats both of those cars. Though I think Audi still has the best, can't wait for the next gen A8.

Their whole goal with this car was to make a sedan that was 4-door, spacious, luxurious, and still had the power of Porsche. The front end was supposedly inspired from the 996 models and, despite the controversy, the back end still has the 911 arch/slant...which is what they were going for. And why would you use the Cayenne rear?? It's a sedan...not an SUV. If you actually look at the car you'll see that the style is, in fact, typical Porsche. People complain about it being too wide or big or stretched, but the fact of the matter is that if you're gonna have a more spacious car, it's not gonna look exactly like a 911, but it can be close. That's what they accomplished.

To me, the car looks like it fits in with Porsche perfectly. I think the front end is gorgeous along with the rear, but that's just my opinion :)

To me, the car looks like it fits in with Porsche perfectly. I think the front end is gorgeous along with the rear, but that's just my opinion :)The rear window has very little to do with the spaciousness of the passengers in a sedan. There is no Porsche built with c-pillars as large as the Panamera, they're even larger than the Cayenne! Was their intent a sedan or a station wagon or just somewhere in between? The rear window is not fixed so technically it is a station wagon and not even a sedan.

Did a designer drop the clay prototype smashing it into the floor making it look like it does? It looks like a subway sandwich in the rear lol! If you put a steel bumper on the back of a Panamera it would look like a late 40's Chrysler product. My parents had a 1949 Dodge that we would drive weekly.

I completely agree with carrying on the Porsche design tradition, I would even put myself as one of the top 10 Porsche fans out of the 37,000 members on IA but the rear doesn't resemble anything. The silhouette of the rear hardly resembles any Porsche. The only thing ground breaking about the car is that it's a 4 door car made by Porsche, something just about every manufacturer has already accomplished.

If i was in the market for a luxury sedan it would be this...just sayin.
