Last night, on CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360˚, Dr. Sanjay Gupta aired an investigative news segment on racial discrimination that results from separate and unequal care provided by private, voluntary teaching hospitals in New York City.

there is a link to the article. They repeated several times they were treated differently by the color of their skin. The sad part though is they mentioned they all had Medicaid. Well from experience on what medicaid pays the Dr compared to regular insurance it's a no brainer. They also barely mention that there are 19 times more black people on medicaid in the bronx than white people.
This madness has to stop. Everytime i turn around and watch the news it's racist this and racist that. I have no insurance, would never qualify for medicaid and have a hurt neck. I get the same treatment as these people but i am white so who do i complain too, seriously this troubles me. I have a friend who is white, lost his leg and has medicaid and guess what he gets treated like a cattle heard at his pain management DR.
This is just a plain case of insurance descrimination, not racial like they said over and over again last nigh on AC360. If you had the choice of doing a motor swap on two cars that are the same are you gonna do the one that pays $100 or $1100. That is what it comes down to.
Please discuss. Again i am white, have no insurance and a pinched nerve in my neck and have to take meds daily so how do i get on the news, maybe i just need to show up at CNN in atlanta to get my case heard.

It has nothing to do with your insurance or color of skin, is has to do with the fact that all those places are understaffed and under payed. I have been in the medical field for almost 5 years and I treat all my patients the same doesn't matter if they are uninsured, medicaid or the richest people in the world they all get the same standard of care and the next one does. Try going somewhere different the results will amaze you.

yea I was even puzzled by that piece and I'm black. I don't think i have ever been treated differently by my physician, or med center emergency clinic in macon, or the er anywhere.

fortunately i like my primary care Dr. He actually listens to me and does not treat me like cattle. i take oxycodone, valium, and soma. he knows i cant come see him every month but he will atleast let me come pick up my scripts for free. i do have some friends with medicaid and they go to pain Dr's and they were treated like cattle. they would not give him soma even though he is more messed up than i am and is missing a leg.
i used to do billing and collections for many hospitals and most of them treated anybody in the ER and would offer financial assistance. but some would send medicaid and uninsured patients elswhere. something's gotta give with healthcare but i dont think government run is the answer.

i hate to say it man but some people like to throw the race card out for little to no reason. go to the obamaforum.com and see some of the comments on there. it's like those people are stuck in the 60s or something i don't get it. i am like you where i have not been treated like crap anywhere i have gone even when i don't have a dime to pay. though i have been blown off by 1 doctor who i guess thought i was full of crap about my neck injury.
i was baffled while watching that last night followed by the harvard guy at his house. according to the initial reports he did not ID himself and exercised his 4th and 5th amendment right. with the crime rat and theft going up from a bad economy i don't care who that would have been they would have all been arrested until they were ID'ed.
Did anyone else see this last night. If they don't like NY they can move to ATL, hell if i ever need to go to a good trauma center im going to grady because i still hear they have the best.

You are mistaken with the Grady remark. I've said it a thousand times before I'll take people I don't know to Grady my friends, family and my self go to AMC ( amc won't kill you once you reach the floor). What's the name of your budies pm clinic if you want I can refer him to a really good one depending on where he lives.

i already referred him to the one my girlfriend goes to, but they have been giving her a 9 panel drug screen and we just had to go to labcorp to prove she takes her oxycodone. labcorp said it will not typically show up in a 9 panel because of how it's metabolized. thanks though man.
she actually goes to Dr zackers and we live in winder. he has the only office that does physical and massage therapy along with meds that doesn't charge an arm and two legs. i'll keep the grady info in mind, what hospital is AMC btw.

It is a Tenet Hospital located just south of Grady, Atlanta Medical Center. best Neuro in the state second only to Emory. I would rate it probably the second best Trauma center in the region with Erlanger in Tenn. being the best. But Grady has the best Burn unit locally with only Augusta ahead of them in the state.
