I am in the process of building my turbo gsr. and i am using a ls crank and ls eagle rods.. I am wanting to go with acl main bearings and rod bearings.. and i understand that the bearing or machined to the rods.. if that is soo.. when i get the block back to the machine shop.. i am able just to put the main bearings and rods bearings right in.. since the clearance is different from stock..

get u a set of acl bearings then plasti gauge it. find out whats your looking like. go fram there.

get u a set of acl bearings then plasti gauge it. find out whats your looking like. go fram there.never us plastic gauge. it can damage the bearing and is not very accurate. do it the correct way and have the machine shop measure the bearing clearance with the proper tools. aka bore gauge for the bearings and a caliper for the crank bearing side.

hasnt failed me in 9 years. maybe u did it wrong. just sayinnope high performance bearings can be easily damaged by that plastic gauge. its ok for cam journals. but it can damage the first few layers of the bearing since they are soft and sometimes have lead as a layer. and its not accurate. you would have to measure all the ways around and even then its not accurate. just use a bore gauge the correct way.

why not let the machine shop do the job for you besides they have it in there hands.. 8D

You can get the recommend bore measurement from ACL for the particular bearings that you are running. Then you can measure your main journal bores, your main journals on your crank, your rod bores, and your rod journals on your crank to make sure you are within spec. You should use a bore gauge and a set of micrometers to measure.

ok cool. but the machine shop said that since they measured everything up. all i have to do is just put them in.. how true in that???

To each his own, ive built several motors with ACL duraglides and measured clearances with plastigage, never had a single problem. I would be much more concerned with more precise clearance measuring if youre using non standard sized bearings

Depends on how well you trust your machine shop. If it's within the proper tolerance, then you can use a standard size bearing.
Dirtymechanic, there's nothing wrong with plasti gauge so long as you know how to use it. It has been used, even in high performance engines, for years and is a correct and accepted way of measurement.

ok cool. but the machine shop said that since they measured everything up. all i have to do is just put them in.. how true in that??? make sure they note and tell you which bearing halfs go to each bearing cap... every bearing is not the same even if they are all came from the same bearing set. so where ever they had them when they measured them that all HAVE to go back to say same rod or main bearing site to get the same measurement and clearance when you put it together.
