broken axle :ninja:
didn't even get to make a pass....went around for a motor pass, kicked it up to 4k and let her rip, made it about 10ft and then the dreaded POP! accompanied by coasting
didnt get a chance to get any pictures and the cars back at JJSPEC now, but the inner cv joint is destroyed, the axle stub that goes into the rear end turns and the rest of the axle out is stationary! :lmfao:
funny thing is this is a drive shaft shop level 5 axle, was supposed to be rated to 800hp when we put it in 2 years ago, and the other side is stock, course i guess it's logical when its the drive side of the lsd thats breaking
good news is dss doesnt offer this axle anymore, so hopefully people were breaking it and they have an improved design, we are going to see if they can retrofit this axle with a new joint and if not i guess i'll step up to the 1k hp axle and see how that goes

the integra made an appearance, went 12.4@113 iirc, he was able to do a little bit more street tuning on it this past week, i bet the car has a total of 45 minutes of tuning, if that, so there's still plenty left, going to see if a buddy of ours will let him borrow his 24.5's and see how that does
you're welcome to use the tires one night man, theyre 5x4.75 lug pattern, the rears have a 5.5" backspace, and the fronts have a 1.75" backspace

general maintenance to full on builds, custom fab, track support, you name it and we are willing to do it
we currently are building a few cars for customers, 650+ civic coupe with a golden eagle sleeved block, hondata, wiseco, bullseye power s366, etc etc, an evo with similar power goals, bullseye power s366, aem ems, shep trans, etc, an sr20 shooting for mid 400's, a turbo rsx with k20/24 hybrid originally built by JJ thats getting a refreshen and some other stuff secret stuff, a couple scca cars have been through there, and a 98 prelude that was built for a customer to be a full on race car, basically the same setup as JJ had on his hotrod civic, h22 with a bullseye power s372, hondata, etc, etc....shooting for mid to high 800's on high boost and race gas, we are waiting on the shifter to come back from from T1 getting a strain gauge for the dogbox tranny, and the digital six coming from msd, get those in and he's ready to be tuned
we just had a customer bring us a completely stripped 67 camaro that is getting a cage and ideas of suspension, motor builds, etc are still in the works, as of right now we are looking at a ls1, t56(or maybe auto), and turbo(s)....but we will see, like i said, that parts still in the air

How much are those DSS axles? $1200? IMO better off keeping the stockers and risking it.

stock axles are actually more than the dss axles are....or atleast they were 2 years ago, i believe the stock one from gm was $7XX and dss was somewhere around $580-600 iirc

Yeah I was wondering about it, it made a great showing on just that "night before" tune at the single cam thing. I'm actually ordering tires this week, I may make a few passes this weekend. We've pretty much ironed out all the problems, I'm excited to see what the car will do.

Thats why I asked Evil about why he paid so much. 03/04 Cobra axles are $200/each new, about $115 used...they will hold up to hard launches and 1.5 60s but can also break at anytime too...so I don't think DSS axles are worth the money...seen too many problems with them and breaking lvl 5 shafts break with 500rwhp.

One thing i found out, and told evil about is that DSS had some trouble with a material supplier. In both the import world and domestic they were having breakage on all stages. Since then they changed suppliers and havnt had any issues.

dss is worth it (i've got over 50 150shot clutch drops on this axle, many more motor passes, daily use, etc), and for my application there arent many people out there worth messing with. dss is taking care of me and the car should be back going in less than a week.
now if the improved unit breaks im going to seriously consider checking out gforce1320 axles, theres a handful of 9-10 second gto's using gforce axles, and they test every axle they produce on their 9 sceond gto as well....so its sort of application specific for me
we'll see, if all goes well ill be out at the track again on friday to see what goes next!

I didn't tell you what I said to Chris (Justice) and Heath right before your run.
Right as we were walking up to the stands, I jokingly said "Ok, let's go watch Josh break his rear end" and no bullshit, 5 seconds later, Jimmy called to tell me to go get the truck. I told Chris what happened and he said "I thought I heard a loud pop. You can't do shit like that Peter, it's not nice."
This just goes along with all my other premonitions about people randomly showing up at the shop.
I'm still reserving the Jessica Barton one, I can't ruin that opportunity.
