Photo tips please

Gonna take some good pics of my car tomorrow and was curious if you photog guys have any tips for me. I have been practicing a lot and I have gotten better. Just need tips on lighting and background etc. Any tips would be helpful.:goodjob:

Do not have any of the car yet with good camera.:( Thats what I plan on tomorrow. Been practicing with random shots. Haven't saved anything though.

but yea if we dont know where you are and what skills you have we could be telling you to adjust iso, shutter speed, aperture, etc and youd have know idea what were talking about. lol

if possible take a laptop so you can preview the pics to see if your shutter speed is correct b/c i know i cant tell shit on my screen...

-look to make sure no trees or poles are "growing" out of the hood/roof/trunk of the car
-use the lowest ISO you can, even if you have to use a tripod
-shoot against a background that makes your car "pop" aka if its a light colored car shoot against a dark background
-make sure there are no clutter (trash cans, other cars, people, powerlines or poles) in your background. dont have things back there that distract away from the subject aka your car
-dont shoot in an area with trees overhead cause they will reflect onto your car.

That is exactly the answer I was looking for. Cause I know shooting cars are different cause of reflective surfaces etc. Thank you. Reps to all when I can.

Another thing you can do is to go onto Flickr and look up pics of cars and look at the camera settings people on there are using (check ISO, speed and aperture (sometimes called f-stop..will be seen like f3.8, f6.0 etc on cam settings).

Also, watch where your lighting is.. make sure to keep light behind you. If there are street lights around, try to keep them out of the background as well. Don't use one light (i.e. parking under a single street light) for light up your subject.

Use the timer setting on your camera..set it to like 2 or 5 seconds, this will assure you don't get any vibrations from hitting the shutter (this really works well on lower end/mid-priced cameras...those nice DSLR cameras are much better at taking lower light pictures)

Like Chad said, use a tripod.

make sure your white balance is correct!!! i know it can be edited but it's such a pain in the ass. cars are pretty important to get the colors correct on so try your best to get it spot on in the camera. another thing is if your just using all the orig. stuff that came with your D40 then take a tripod. if you shoot right before dusk then your D40 will need it for extra crispy pics.

anyway, if you try and do everything this thread says, then you should do pretty good. this is actually one of the few very informative threads that i've seen on here lolol. it goes to show what people will do for you on IA if your not a douchebag and can type decent english.
