car wont start now

i own a 1989 honda civic hatch, yesterday we fixed a stripped spark plug and put it all back together. but before that it would run off 3 cylinders. but when we put it all back, it wouldnt crank. maybe timing off? but we fixed the timing and now still wont crank. is the dizzy messed up? we did take it off, dont kno why.

Basic things to check:
- Check to see if you are getting spark.
- Check to see if you are getting fuel.
- Make sure you have adequate compression.
- Check the timing.
- Check the firing order.
- Check and fix any check engine light issues there may be.

Post back if any of the above is out of whack and let's go from there.

its getting fuel. not a spark

Most likely not, but put it on anyways. The ground on the tranny is usually sufficient by itself. Sounds stupid, but check to see if you plugged the distributor back in. Check the ECU fuse. If all of that is good. Get a test light and see if you are getting any power to the distributor. If you are, make sure the screw hasn't come out of the rotor button inside the distributor.

i plugged it back in, i forgot about it at first and didnt. but when i plugged it in, still no start up. the ecu fuse is good. and how do i tell if im getting power to it?

ground the test light to the body, and tap into the hot red wire going to the dizzy?

Find the wires running to the coil. Check the wire going to the positive side of the coil with a test light to see if it is getting + current. If it is, then start checking the cap, rotor button etc. How did you test to see if it was getting spark btw?

Make sure to check the ground going to the thermostat housing, it's a sneaky little shit at causing starting problems.

Ok, try that again, but make sure all the grounds are on, and touch the spark plug threads to one of the bolts on the valve cover and see if they spark then.

yea, they spark. i have good firing. but the motor just wont start.

Check the bleeder valve on the fuel rail to see if your getting fuel to the fuel rail.

i dont have a fuel rail, only one injector. i have the gay d15b haha

Sound like the Ignition coil or Rotor Button went bad. I had the same problem last week. I thought it was my distributor but really it was the coil and rotor button. G/L
