all of a sudden my car threw a code of p0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1) and two codes for an o2 sensor. I checked for exhaust leaks, none. Im not sure if the catalyst could be clogged? it drives fine but when u try to mush on the gas it bogs but when stepping on the gas pedal lightly it will drive normal? Whats the deal? Btw: there is a little smell coming out, i remember that smell when i put the new cat in a few months ago.

few months wouldn't be long enough for the cat to go bad....maybe it was defective from the start. What kind of cat did you put on?

checked that, no codes thrown for that, and listend to the exhaust, sounds steady, no popping

Also check the fuel filter....may be time for a new one since it only does it at WOT.

I had the same issue with an Integra I bought a few years ago, the cat was indeed clogged. If the engine burns oil, or the A/F mixture is off, added to the fact that it is a cheap aftermarket cat, it will clog up VERY quickly. The easiest way to find out is to just remove the cat and exhaust and test drive the car. It will be very loud, but you are just looking to see if the condition stops. If the car feels a lot stronger (which I'd bet money it will) then you need to replace the cat, and correct the problem that is fouling it in the first place. Like I said, I would look to burning oil because of worn rings or valve stem seals, or both. Try it, it costs nothing but an hour or so. Good luck.

Edit: the smell is also most likely a rotten egg or sulfur smell, which is attributed to the catalyst overheating. If it is severely clogged, you will be able to drive the car and then immediately look at the cat under the car, they can get so hot when clogged they actually glow red!

mine wasnt throwin a code for it either until i replace my cat
does it bogs or does it stutter if it bogs try cleaning your egr
if it stutters check your plugs and wires doesnt hurt to check anyway

sorry let me explain it a little better. When i crank the car the rpms will jump to 1k. feels like a dead startup. then the rpms will jump up, then down to the point it sounds like it will stall and die. Then it will idle fine.. The car bogs when pressed on the gas all the way. Drives kind of normal, but when heavy accelerated it bogs.

Compression check ASAP. If it sounds like you don't have compression.... you probably don't.

Check your idle control valve vacuum hose.

Check the vacuum to the MAP sensor and make sure the dizzy is ok. We also had the same problem with an older DA with a b20 swap that had a bad TDC in the distributor.
