This past weekend, we got the AEM fuel and ignition controller wired in, Greddy profec electronic boost controller wired, AEM UEGO wired in and oil cooler and relocation kit put on. We got the oil feed and drain done for the turbo. Forgot to get some pictures before we left. We just need to finish the vac lines routed and the radiator mounted.

Damn that engine bay is STUFFED. nice and unique project though, I hope you don't hit too many snags along the way.

it has been nothing but obstacle after obstacle. glad we are nearing the end though

So the supercharger output goes into the turbo input? Seems like rather than providing boost to the turbo inlet it would just blow back out the air filter.

Corolla_TC
06-22-2009, 08:15 AM
there is a one way valve inside the 2.5in pipe that goes to the filter. that way the supercharger feeds the turbo and when the turbo wants more air than the supercharger is providing, the one way valve opens and lets in more air.

Ah ok good then, that makes much more sense. Is that blower on a clutch? Looks kinda like a previa blower.

Corolla_TC
06-22-2009, 09:12 AM
yeah it has a clutch. it is the sc12 from a gze. it is basically a smaller version of the sc14 which is the one from a previa. i debated on upgrading to a sc14 but it was tight enough trying to make the sc12 fit. When it is done, im gonna see how she runs and probably get the NST pulley kit to up the sc boost.

This will sound crazy, but I think the most appealing aspect of a twincharge build in my eyes, is just the sheer complexity of it. It's cool to be able to say "Yeah, nice turbo kit.... too bad it's so easy a kindergardener could do that, check THIS shit out!"

lol

Corolla_TC
06-22-2009, 10:01 AM
that is pretty much why i have a twincharge setup. a boosted corolla, meh. an engine swapped boosted corolla, thats interesting. a twincharged grocery getter will get some attention. that and the supercharger will take care of turbo lag. i want to upgrade to a bigger turbo after a while

i dont know much about the performance side of those motors. what are they about to handle. what have u done internals wise other than HG.

the 4agze is a solid block. forged pistons, rods and crank. gze block is capable of 5-600hp on stock bottom end. it is pretty much a 4 cylinder version of the 2jz

WOW learn something every day. i didn't know they were that damn stout!:goodjob:

a lot of people don't know about the gze. that is why i don't understand swapping in a 20v silvertop or blacktop. the gze is strong as hell. I personally am only shooting for 350whp which i do realize isn't exaclty low but that is why i am putting in the greddy boost controller. it won't be a daily driver but when i do "regular" driving, im setting the low boost to keep it at around 250-275whp.

i have an extra 20 valve tranny if you want one.. shubert was supposed to come get it off me but he never stopped by. if you want it pm me and ill give you directions

actually i am running the e58 tranny which is meant for the gze. i actually have a spare one also from the second motor i ordered.

mines free if you want another spare. its just been sitting in my garage for two years form when i did my gze swap.

scott, grab that tranny from the guy!

anyways... glad its coming along man. i have done weak shit since then. soo not much of anything reallylol. im glad after 4 yearsthis car has made a place lol

yogi if you ever want to do anything to that 240, i got a buddy with a shop and engine hoist up here that loves to work on cars as much as us.

supercharged and turbocharged

Corolla_TC
06-23-2009, 12:57 PM
damn that was quick. i have instant email notification and you responded before i did. i really appreciate it. that is reason i am building this thing. aside from the 86's the corollas don't get any attention

LOL...i guess i was at the right place/right time!

Yeah i was expecting and AE but when i saw the car it was in i was impressed!

Corolla_TC
06-23-2009, 01:21 PM
its an AE.....AE102.

That is bad ass sir. For years Ive been researching and wanting to twin charge an sr20 with a sc14 charger. I did not know they made one way valves for the intake though. Thats good to know, I was going to use multiple trottle bodies, opened by actuators once the turbo kicks past a psi beond the supercharge. A one way valve is alot better solution lol. Keep up the awsome work.

Corolla_TC
06-23-2009, 01:25 PM
the one way valve we found and are using, fits perfectly inside 2.5in ic piping. you have to beat it in but it is air tight once its in there.

TheSnail
06-23-2009, 01:31 PM
Thats good to know, I'll have to contact you when I attempt mine. Ive spent dozens of hours on google searching for set ups, so its very rare to actually see detailed pictures of the setup. :goodjob:

Corolla_TC
06-23-2009, 01:32 PM
look at the vw setup. that is the one we based mine off of. the only difference is we are using two filters so we didn't have to have two "y's" and even more piping.

D3UC3S
06-23-2009, 02:06 PM
its an AE.....AE102.

i was expecting an AE86 LOL...i shoulda been more specific! I just saw twincharge and corolla...overlooked the 94 part originally!

good shit bro! :goodjob:

i know this setup is going to get some flaming but it has been planned out and it is going to work. i have also talked to some people that have done it and they say it works just fine.

we got the radiator mounted and coolant lines ran. we also got the vac lines ran and the belts on. we just have a little bit of wiring and some small misc things to get it cranked. still got some work to do before it hits the streets though

Is that going to clear the hood? I guess there was no way to mount it in a factory position but with a pusher slim fan?

Corolla_TC
06-29-2009, 10:22 AM
no its not going to clear the hood "factory spec" but will when i get done with the hood.

and the fan is a 3000cfm perma cool fan. what im basically going to do is put as small of a cowl as i can and mount a 99-04 mustang gt scoop just above the fan to pull in fresh air to push through

sounds.... interesting lol. I'm sure it will turn out much better than I'm picturing though. But, ya do what ya gotta do to get it running right :goodjob:

Corolla_TC
06-29-2009, 10:38 AM
yeah i wasn't thrilled with the idea of a cowl or scoop but like you said, i gotta do what i gotta do. the only other thing i could think of would be to mount it in the trunk, with another water pump and 30 ft of hose

It might not be a show engine bay, but that's pretty freakin' cool!

Corolla_TC
06-29-2009, 10:50 AM
im gonna start to clean it up once its done. try to clean it up even more you should see it compared to the original twincharged setup that was done by a shop

Honestly, those ^^^ pics don't look all that bad... with some engine bay cleaning, it would look quite clean. So why all the new work over what was already in there?

Damn cool system for sure.

I've researched on how to do a killer twin-charge Miata using a MP62 blower and a rear-mount turbo....but the HP capabilities (400+) quickly overwhelm the engine ..and would require a built engine. Luckily, us Miata guys can make 300rwph pretty easily..and that's more than enough to have fun.

props to you for sure!

Corolla_TC
06-29-2009, 11:19 AM
the old setup had the turbo feeding the supercharger which blew the seals on the turbo cause it was basically pushing against a brickwall. it was also rusting badly, wiring was a mess, v-clamp was leaking...

takume
06-29-2009, 11:32 AM
this is quite a unique built. Hat off for you sir.

Doppelgänger
06-29-2009, 11:34 AM
Ahhh. That kinda answers my next question as to why I was looking at two airfilters. I understand the s/c is on a clutch, but which one is being fed boost now? If the s/c is breathing through a filter and the turbo is also, at what point and how is boost from one system "switched over" or merged with the other?

Corolla_TC
06-29-2009, 11:44 AM
it is based off of the vw system....the sc is feeding the turbo and the fitler by the turbo has a one way valve inside the piping so.....

when the turbo starts trying to pull more air than the sc is feeding it, the one way valve opens and lets in fresh air. right now im talking to my sponsor about getting the NST pulley kit so that the sc pushes even more boost. basically, the sc is taking care of turbo lag

Doppelgänger
06-29-2009, 11:56 AM
Ahh ok. So the s/c is more of an auxillary unit to the turbo rather than having one compressor feeding the other all the time. Whereas the old setup was a compound boost system. Were/are you using a anti-surge turbo compressor housing on the previous setup?

Corolla_TC
06-29-2009, 12:05 PM
well the sc will be going all the time, it will just have the fresh air to help it when it isn't enough. as for the anti-surge housing, i have heard mixed reviews of them so i stayed away from them. i wasn't really sure about it
