Well, it's been 8-9 years since I got my first car... and I have never had a honda...

That has changed...

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q313/yslbtt/Honda/IMG00109.jpg

It's just a beater. Picked it up today, blown motor. For now, I just want to drop a D16, and use it as a daily driver.

My plans:
- make it look presentable (maybe clay bar the paint see how it looks, put some meshes, and maybe some springs, a nice little drop and new seats).
- somewhere down the road maybe a b series motor. Havent decided yet, but prob b20 block with b16 head. Just to have get up and go, not that it would be greats amount of power, but at least more than a d16 would.
- no exhaust or intake. i want it to sound normal. i already got my loud car

06 -21-09 Quick update:

Took all the seats, center console out. Preliminary first clean up.

My driver door's hinge seems to be broken. It doesnt close all the way.

MongolPup showed up with a gift I was waiting for... it's fucking sweet. Dont mind my dirty window. I got a DD now so i can keep the evo clean at all times now. It will be garaged.

07/03/09 Update

Battery was dead. Advanced auto parts people told me to try to warranty it, it was a wal mart battery, turns out they did warranty it for me. Free battery, cant beat that.

I cleaned out the oil stains in the garage, since it's not my house, and sprayed some purple power on the transmission, to get some of that grease out, and the old engine. Engine looks a lot better now.

Today we put the AC compressor back on as well. I may have AC soon.

So put the new battery in and fixed the timing, put a new dizzy in and it worked.

Put all the interior back on and it's good to go except the clutch cable MAY need adjusting (which im hoping this is the problem) or the clutch is slipping. The last owner said the clutch never slipped or anything and when we did the swap the clutch looked fine. Also the brakes need to be bled. Probably do that sometime this weekend.

I didn't have my camera today so i only snapped these 4 pics:

Update 08/14/09

Have been busy the past few weeks, and haven't really had a chance to do anything.

The car wasnt running right so i decided not to drive it. Last weekend, i drove it up to cumming, where one of my friends live and we spent all weekend trying to fix all major issues. New head and exhaust gasket were the big ones, everything else was minor. Car runs awesome now. Yesterday i went to mainstream and james did a couple of things for me here and there, just some loose wires.

Things I still need to do:
-replace my shift linkage, my shifter has at least 6" of play WHEN IN GEAR. (bushings are gone but its still driveable)
-replace or fix master brake cylinder, as it's leaking
-replace the temperature sensor right underneath the distributor

these are cosmetic that i want to do:
-get the 91 tail lights (the two strips)
-rims
-lower a little, not slam it
-steering wheel (which i already have, i just need the hub, if anyone has one LMK, or else im buying it off ebay)
-seats
-stereo and speakers
-glove compartment, im missing mine.
-Integra center console. Not having cupholders sucks!

Today i did some cleaning too. Made it look a little more presentable. Oh and a BIG one, I now have AC. :taun:

More to come, hopefully soon.

You can try a couple of things with the distributor.

One of the common problems with them is that the ignitor fails. You can pull it and have it tested at Advance. It lives in the distributor and has four wires going into it. They are subjected to a lot of heat soak and tend to be the first component in the dizzy to fail. The coil can be checked with an ohm meter, too, to narrow down what's wrong with the dizzy.

Another failure is that the little screw that hold the ignition rotor to the distributor shaft backs out. I've had this happen on mine three-ish times; once was in the middle of traffic in Atlanta. A new rotor would fix it since the rotor comes with a new set screw.

I'd also recommend getting another extra distributor and carrying it in your trunk. I'm on my fourth dizzy in about six years of owning my hatch.

Ed
06-28-2009, 02:28 PM
Straightsix I appreciate the help I'm watching the game right now but after the game I'm gonna get back on it.

Also I have a jdm distributor that came with the engine, so I will take both apart and try to fix it. The jdm dizzy is all weird looking and won't work with it.

straightsix, i opened it up both dizzys i have and they dont look anything like the other. so i am not sure. i may take the icm to see they can test it. also the bearing holding the shaft is bad, the shaft isnt turning as smoothly as it should be.

D-series distributors can be quite notchy when turning the shaft. It's not an indication of the bearings health as there's a magnet and an excitor ring. The notchiness is coming from that rather than bearing. End play and radial play are better indicators of the bearing's health.

I'm not surprised that the JDM and USDM distributors look different inside. Also, I wouldn't expect the JDM dizzy to work with the wiring in your dual point car. Hell, the USDM DPFI and MPFI distributors aren't interchangable. But, the ignition modules might be; my car is currently running a MPFI distributor with the module out of an OBD1 D15B7.

Keep at it. It'll be running soon enough.

Wait, you got it to crank and start? If it starts and then dies off quickly I'd say its the alternator or an incredibly bad battery.

it doesn't start, as soon as i turn the key it just drains what little battery it has. i let it charge for like 5 minutes but still wouldnt start. i think its a bad cel.

Ed

just a quick update.

today, i drove it around for the first time.

clutch is fine now, maybe it needed to be settled? maybe it was grease from when we worked on it? either way its not slipping.

the idle stays high cause of the cable of the throttle. if i pull the accelerator back with my foot it goes back to normal. i tried spraying some wd40 to see if that would fix it, but that didnt fix it. im gonna ghetto rig it, attach another spring on the other side and try to fix it like that.

my shifter needs bushings. the play on it is tremendous. if anyone's got one hit me up.

my flywheel is exposed. one of my friends may have a cover for it, and i will get it if he does.

i need to replace my o2 sensor.

one of the hoses on the thermostat is leaking, so when i drive it for a long time and i get to my destination a big cloud of coolant smoke comes out.

my speedometer stopped working. im sure this is nothing big.

reverse light and oil temperature sensor needs to be hooked up.

other than that, i cant think of anything else wrong with it.

im just glad the clutch is fine. i know we looked at it and it was fine. the rest is jsut minor stuff. :D

While you're looking for an integra console you can use this method...

Only costs about $4. lolol I can't use mine now because of my short shifter though.

Btw, I used Duplicolor Bumper Coating on my bumpers and they came out great.

Wayne and josh thanks yo. I will try that I was thinking about spray painting the bumper but the duplicolor seems like a good idea.

Marcos, thanks I'm not trying to make this go fast.

I used flat black spray paint plenty of times before I used that, but with the Duplicolor there is no touching up. The flat black faded over time. However it did make for a good primer so the Duplicolor stuck better.
