View Full Version : Freaking gas prices!!!

I wish there was something we could do about the riseing oil prices. All we heard last year of why it was so high was the old supply and demand BS, well now the demand is at record lows but the prices are still climbing just so the rich bastards can keep making billions upon billions. This just enrages me beyond belief, our dumb ass president hasn't said a damn thing about the prices. I mean they say the reason the prices are climbing now is because it looks like the recession might be coming to an end sometime in the near future. Great, thats exactly what the people need who are struggling to pay there bills as it is, is to have to pay more for gas that shouldn't be anymore than $1.15 a gallon tops. It's all a damn conspiracy!!! Whats your thought?

I do realize this, thank you for reminding me. There is something we can do, we could all stand up and not by gas for one day and they would have to lower the prices. But people like you are why the prices keep going up because you think there is nothing we can do.

No thanks and the reason it's so expensive over there is cause there taxes are outragiously high. Kinda how the US's are gonna be if the damn demi's have there way with things. So STFU unless you have something contructive to say. Were all supposed to be on the same side or so I thought:thinking:

I know there's a whole hell of alot that the news doesn't want you to hear. Can you explain to me then why when last year when demmand was at a historical high, a barrel was selling around $130 and prices were around $4 bucks a gallon. Now demmand is at a 30 year low and the prices are at $70 a barrel but the price is still at $2.65 a gallon. A barrel is half of what it was a year ago but the price is only of a gallon is only down around 40%. I think thats BS thats all. And before everyone knows it the prices are gonna be back up to over $4 bucks a gallon and everyone is gonna be bitchen again. I just thought if your so called leaders would do something about the prices now then they would never have to be that high again.

You realize that effectively does nothing to curb demand since people just buy extra gas to compensate in the days before and after.

Thatplan may not be truly effective. However it is pussy ass people that say there is nothing we can do about it that is the reason this socialist ass is running all over the AMERICAN people. Stand up for what is right in every little situation you can! It helps. I do it every day and if more people would too then maybe we wouldn't be in the shape we are in. Period.

P.S. :2up: the government getting involved directly with business, and:2up: socialist medicine. :2up: Obama.

Yeah, because spending our way out of a recession is a great plan. My business hasn't changed and we will easily see 10% unemployment this year.

There was actually a pretty good article about this on bloomberg a week or so ago. The problem right now is the same one that caused the oil boom. Speculators are starting to see an end to the global recession so they are buying oil futures now. Then you have talks from OPEC about a small cut in production this summer, or at least, no added production. Both of those go hand in hand to cause the rise in oil.

To the dipshit blaming oil prices on rich people, get a clue. Oil companies make less money per gallon of gas than the Govt does. About 22% of a gallon goes to state, federal, and local taxes. Only about 11% goes to the oil companies as profit.

Demand isnt an issue. Just like the last oil bubble, the prices are being inflated by speculators guessing on the end of the recession. You can also blame OPEC for their constant threats to slow production.

and they refine NONE(at least in the netherlands, other countries may be the same) of their own oil so they pay to have it shipped in all ready to be used.

in the Netherlands gas prices are about 1.7 euros per LITER and it may be higher now

You keep believing that. If you were in business for yourself and actually paid attention to what is going on, then you might understand. It has not gotten ANY better since he has taken over. It has had it's up points due to putting large amounts of capital into businesses but it is quickly back to before. As was stated he is spending us into a worse situation.

There is nothing you can do retard. OPEC is artificially raising oil prices to ~$85 a barrel, and they intend to keep it there until further notice. We have nearly record high reserves of gas currently, though the supposed nearing of the economic recession is causing speculators to seize this oppurtunity to milk the cash cow. OPEC is slowing down production, period. They do not want to see oil fall to ~$35 a barrel (*where it should be*), that'd be less $$$ in their pocket. Why would you charge less.... if you could charge more knowing that people have to buy it anyways???

READ THIS CAREFULLY:

THE ONLY CURE FOR HIGH GAS PRICES, IS HIGH GAS PRICES.

Though even there lies a problem. Who is funding the bulk of research/development into alternative fuel sources?? The oil companies. But why?

1) To establish a strangle hold on whatever commodity we end up settling on for an alternative fuel source

and

2) Not only monitor the progression and therefore know how long they have to milk this oil cash cow, but to MANIPULATE AND MANAGE the amount of time they have. Basically... slow advancement towards finding alternative fuel sources until they can figure out a way to milk it the same way they milk 710

I remember when people were KILLING Bush about the prices of gas, lots of people on here included. Truth is, there really isnt shit the president can do about it. Gas was sub $2 @ the end of his term and its raising now b/c of summer. IT RAISES EVERY SUMMER, then goes back down in the fall, its been this way for as long as I can remember. The economy isnt in any better condition, everyone has their new "getting their ass together" commercials on TV, but the truth is nothing has changed. People are just happy b/c Obama is in office to make "change." If he wants to make a change thats going to help us, kill of the UAW.

I think one thing people forget about is inflation. I mean yes I can remember the days when I only paid about .93c a gallon to fill my car up but back then I also only paid .25c to make a phone call from a pay phone and a can of soda was only .50c. Gladly enough gas prices are not up to where they were last year, but even if they do then I guess im just going to have to make some small change to how often I drive. Honestly I rarely look at how much gas costs because all it does is make people mad and unless im going to buy a hybrid or write a letter to my congressman ( which probably wont do much either) than theres really not that much that me getting upset about the prices at the pump will change.:2cents:
