Lately i have been thinking about purchasing a dslr camera. Im looking for a basic setup for beginners. All I have really been looking at is nikon d40's. Is there anything else in the $450 price range that is comparable to it that i should be looking at? Ive found other cameras but dont know much about them to tell whats best. Ill probably get a camera in the next month unless i change my mind lol. Thanks:goodjob:

I would hunt around for a D50 or D70s with a low number of actuation's. If you feel a hole burning in your wallet, a D200 can be had for around 599ish now.

If you buy it used, you can always ask the person. If they dont know what that is, have them send you in email an unedited photo straight from the camera. Have them taking a photo of a piece of a paper with the current date on it. Once you have that post it, and anyone with an EXIF reader can tell you what number actuation that photo was.

my d50 went out at 38K i think. each actuation=1 picture taken FYI.

you got to think i took 1300 pictures at formulaD. i try to stick under 10K actuations.

if its still on craigslist in a few weeks ill probably pick that up or one similar right now im still deciding if i really want to buy a camera or car mods, those pictures do look amazing btw. As far as lenses go how do i know what each is for im more into taking close up pics of cars and stuff. I sent a few emails to people with cameras and one person is in my area so hopefully they will respond, its a d50 body with battery remote and memory for 300
