a friend of mine is going through some rough times right now, and on top of it, just found out yesterday that her '05 ford escape is big time fucked up. don't have the detailed info yet on exactly what's wrong with it but she was told by them yesterday that somethings wrong with her rods and that she should expect to shell out $6000+ for a new engine.

just wondering if anyone here knows of a good mechanic or dealership service dept that she'd at least be able to get a good 2nd opinion from.

thanks in advance. :goodjob:

cool i'll pass that on, if she gives him detailed info she gets from the dealership her car's at now think he might have an idea on if it's legit or not? only reason is bc i'm not sure if the vehicle can make it all the way out there at this point.

Most likely, he is very good. I was a tech there with him as well as at another Ford dealership.

How'd she mess up the engine? Another NOS Energy Drink incident?

if the car could make it out here you could take it to my mechanic. he rents a unit from us and is the only guy i will let touch my merkur. He charges way less and brings you in the back to physically show and explain to you what is wrong with your car and cuts deals if you pay cash.

Wayne, hit me up on AIM to chat. I have only one dealer that I trust. My mom knows all of them as well, and they dont fuck around with asian moms. lol

so is it knocking? you said something's wrong with the rods... only a few things could be wroing with rods...
1. bent, causing it to come into contact with the cylinder walls,
2. broken (oh you'd know lol), and
3. spun bearing again compromising clearance

i really don't know, haven't heard it myself or anything but if it had to be out of those 3 i'd guess either 1 or 3...

Can you check and see if its the 3 liter Duratec in it? If so, I know of a tsb/recall on a faulty oil sump that could pull some weight.

Would be good if she has solid maint records too.

i'll check. as for the maint records she's working on putting it together. apparently she bought an extended warranty through her insurance so they might cover this if she can get everything together and they approve.

Thats her best bet then. Build her case and then negotiate if it isn't covered.

Blanket statement that has thousands of other variables that come into play.

I know a guy with a V6 Ranger with 600k miles on it and only had the tranny rebuilt once.
