View Full Version : Great Help..Now another problem!
Ok, I got the water spots cleared up on the windows, so now I have yet another problem. On the guage cluster (the actual plastic piece) there are little spots all over it (like acid was spilled on it or something). I have tried to rain-x it, and scrub it with everything I can think of, but to no avial. I'm not really sure what the spots are from, but they have been there since I got the car, and they are getting really annoying. I tried to clean it with windex and I think it got worse, so Someone please help me..I'll throw up some pics, but I'm sry about the size, no photoshop on this comp.

Have you tried any household cleaners like Simple Green, Formula 409, etc? If those spots are acid, the alkaline nature of the household cleaners might neutralize and dissolve them.
How about rubbing alcohol? Mineral spirits? Goo Gone or Goof Off? I'm thinking about things most people would have around the house to remove residues of some sort.
If none of those things work, you'll have to polish out the spots. This could be tricky in that the gauge lens is pretty soft plastic, so it might scratch real easy. But you could try something like Mothers Plastic Polish, Meguiars PlastX, or other similar plastic polishes. Use with a soft cloth and try to test on a small area to see about scratching.

make sure to test a small non visable spot if you are going to try 409 or simple green...
i'd pull the cluster out and try a simple wax...
OK..i took the cluster out and turtle waxed it?? Reguardless, it didn't work, so I tried some Orange Household Cleaner with the same result. So to my avail, I guess I just buy a new one, cuz it's very ugly.. :( Anyone else have an idea?
